Re: Proper hipster!

Webp.net-resizeimage (1).png With that gearing, I`m buggered if I`d want to try and ride that up hill! Need legs like Andre Greipel in those days? The shearers rode them across the Australian outback to get to farms for the obvious job as bicycles were easier and cheaper to maintain than horses (an...

Waxed cotton is the hipster's nylon.
It saves the world from micro plastic. That's enough advantage.

Re: Stans in very wet conditions.

Use Conti Revo.

Seals much more reliable, seals larger tears/cuts/holes and last longer than Stans.

Probably also tastes better than Stans...

Ah, finally I get it too. Yeah, often of the first place to fail. Never tried to squeeze more life out of it by using loctite though. Hope it helps and will keep it in mind for self, should a replacement take a bit longer. Yours is propper broken, loctite won't fix that  Duct tape neither

Re: Angle Adjusting Headsets

Sorry Sean, I don't know where I went wrong, but must have misunderstood you. Don't all sealed bearing headsets not sit tight and need to be compressed slightly for the bearing to sit in the cup. As far as I can remember the bearings have always (or at least for a long time) had a conical area on wh...

Re: Angle Adjusting Headsets

Ouch. I was going to run a workscomponents in a bike I'll soon be getting ready but don't quite like what I'm reading. What had workscomponents to say about your issue? Could it have been user error during installation? The two angle sets I'm using are running strong. Nothing different to a straight...

Re: Next question

Not so much in stretch terms, but in twisting - I guess a clutch mech cuts down on flap and therefore chances of twisting but it has happened to me whereby the chain twists so much that one of the links bends. When I see how narrow 11 and 12 speed chains are it seems they are going to be particular...

I've damaged my right hand on three occasions with multiple fractures, comminuted fractures and injured articular cartilage. Today I'm mostly pain free, but have issues with certain movements, mainly due to a complete destruction my triangular fibrocartilage complex. I ride 9° back- and 5-6° upsweep...

Re: Hydrophobic Down - Any Disadvantages?

On a related note, any tried using the nikwax down treatment on a non-hydrophobic down bag or jacket? I bought a bottle of it last year but so far haven't dared use it... Do you mean Nikwax Down Proof? Sounds interesting. Damnit, we just washed two down items without knowing about the Down Proof. W...

Re: Next question

I don't really need the range of Eagle, 11-40/42 is enough for me here in the Dales, and for trips to Wales, the Lakes and Scotland. With a 30/42T lowest ratio if that isn't low enough then I'll be off and walking. At the top end I rarely use the 11T so why do I need a 10T? True, I ran 11-42/30 for...

Re: Next question

I don't think it's as good as the system offered by Sram. Can't comment on Shimano (as they offer cr@p for large range 1x systems), but my girlfriend's Sunrace cassette is a p.i.t.a to get set right. Was a mistake, should've gone NX or GX. A full Eagle system will outlast many other systems in my ex...

Re: Hydrophobic Down - Any Disadvantages?

Given I only use my bags about 5x a year max I doubt that's going to be a concern. I store them hanging up too, so no compression there either. Go for it. My most used winterbag (custom Cumulus with 630 g 850 cuin down) and medium weight down jacket (Berghaus Ramche, preproduction Gen 2) are both h...

Re: Formula for combining temp ratings on multiple bag/quilt

thanks again, some really good info. is there any school of thought on which layer inside which? I'm guessing synthetic outer, down inner? If you read the article I linked to, they recommend having the synthetic as outer then the dew point should fall within that layer where it has least effect rat...

Re: Formula for combining temp ratings on multiple bag/quilt

Loft is loft - kind of. Works with any insulation. Only that you could improve insulation in a static loft by using heat reflective elements or such with a weaker thermal conduction eg thicker and less breathable shell fabric. But as far as I'm concerned, down is so stupidly light, if you want a war...

Re: Formula for combining temp ratings on multiple bag/quilt

Warmth comes from loft, so if you lay your sleeping bag out on the floor, open it completely and put the quilt ontop of the part of the sleeping bag, which would cover you (you'll be lying on parts of the insulation, so you shouldn't consider that as loft) and measure the height of both, you get the...

Anyone a clue how a ED treated frame will fare? I'm getting one soon and am wondering if it still needs some frame protection(?) It's going to be my winter slapper and kind of keep the expensive plastic bikes from regular winter wear etc., so will see a fair amount of muck and snow & ice, which ...

Re: Penny farthing

I could be wrong as I've never ridden an ordinary, but this seems to have an incredibly relaxed head angle compared to any others I've seen. I'm wondering how that would affect the handling, and whether it'd even be rideable. A wheel that size with that angle would steer really slowly. Too slow for...
