Re: Sore butt ....

I had a charge spoon on my 29er which is usually fine but I found that bikepacking for 7 or so hours a day it was no good for me and got some proper sores despite using cream. I think its the mechanical bumping especially if wet off road that makes it worse, I have no real issues on road with a pret...

Re: Charr bothy

Had a great trip away with 70km of tracks around Fetteresso Forest and a night in charr bothy. Was told (afterwards) the bothy is haunted by the ghost of a 'tinker' who was killed and left there way back when, but he never bothered me! Ride over Ryvoan and around Abernethy forest on Saturday morning...

Re: Golf....help please

Hmmm.... Not sure, golfers and grounds men often seem to be about pretty early along with dog walkers. Maybe if you could sneak away in some of the wooded bits, like the bigger area to the south and just bivvied rather than tent??

Re: Charr bothy

Wow, that was some trip for a gentle one not to aggravate your back

Coldest bothy I stayed in was rackwick on Hoy in April. Stone slab sleeping benches and it must have been colder than a morgue! I'll take a handful of tea lights for a cheery glow and to ease the chill

Re: One Year Time Trial

Steve's has continued to play down the ease of Amanda's route, talking of the troubles of Florida weather and wind she gets, not to mention the odd alligator blocking the road  Saying that she has a lot of support on the route each day so she's drafting lots which minimizes any head winds on th...

Re: Charr bothy

Cheers for those ideas guys :-bd I've got a route from MTB trails for Mount Battock that I'll use as a basis if I go that side. I'm more tempted to go the Fetteresso Forest side (it'll be a nice change to be in woods) and have added to one of of the MTB trail routes for that area to give a 71km main...

Re: Charr bothy

Cheers Adam for those tips. I was thinking of the forest to the east too, thinking it might be a bit less exposed. A more gravel grinder type route might suit well. Could camp over there but the idea of bothy was appealing, especially with an all day meeting the next day! I'll have a bit deeper look...

Salomon fell raiser for me with sealskin socks. Does me for the peat bogs of Shetland hiking and cycling. I tried cycling in my big hiking boots one time and it was horrible.

Charr bothy

Hi, I've got the chance of a few days cycling/hiking down sooth next week as I'm at a meeting at Battleby. The day before the meeting I was thinking to stay at Charr Bothy and do a loop around there somewhere like up around Mount Battock and Millden Lodge. Any Suggestions for a day ride a mere morta...

Mine's a 2014 charge cooker 3 xx with rigid forks and 2.4 tyres. Does me, though I do wonder about drop bars sometimes but the hassle doesn't seem worth it.

Re: I've been dreading this

The rangers will have a nightmare. They can't get the backing of police to deal with issues now. For the police its not normally a priority (odd that) and centralised call centres mean the by in large they have no idea where anything is never mind a random location on a rural loch. There certainly a...

Well done to everyone who's been keeping it up. I've been having a bit of a rough time lately on the food front. In have been doing plenty of walking and cycling though; too much for me actually and run myself down.

Anyway re-logged and restarting...

Thanks for sharing Ian :-bd I too was laid low with CFS for several years and written off from a career in teaching. I sold my bikes, climbing and camping gear and everything, even the house to pay for living. I could hardly get out of the house for a year and had some seriously low points. Pretty m...

And then there's net carbs....

Lots of discussion, but I think it's fair to say a carb isn't a carb in relation to how much is absorbed, rate of absorption and effect on insulin in relation to those.

Depends how your bf is measured. If it was with a dexa scan thing for the tests it includes all body fat, intramuscular, around organs, the lot not just visceral fat, so is lots higher than skin fold tests etc.

I'd like to be 20% by any method

Yeh it was tedious, but some interest in it too.

Dont understand riding in that weather at the start with no waterproof tops etc and I'd definitely have had lights on in those conditions too.

Re: Reproofing Groundsheet

I've used fabsil on the outside of my groundsheets and it does help. It's often hard to find actually dry ground here. Reminds me I need to reapply it as it's not a one off treatment.
