Which mechanical discs for drop bar set up

Hi, I've decided I need to set up my 29er charge cooker as a drop bar mtb due to wrist issues. Flat bars are just no good for my wrists and currently even the OG bars with ergons haven't helped . I used it with 32mm tryes on road for a recent family tour and it was really pretty painful. My drop bar...

Re: GPS navigation recommendations?

Well its been said before, but a few if us just use a smartphone ( on airplane mode) with and free app like maverick ( full uk os 1:25k coverage free) and a battery pack. Most people nowadays already have a smartphone so no additional cost :-bd £10 basic text and call phone from tesco for an emergen...

Yeah sorry, you're not the first to comment on sugar

All I can say is I am actually English

I often make brose at home as its less faff. Just rolled oats in a bowl covered in boiling water with a knob of butter added when its soaked for 10mins. Hopefully that let's me off :???:

Re: Pour and store or...

Do you just use ordinary porridge or some sort of "quick-cook" kind? I've been planning similar but not got round to testing cooking times yet. I used normal rolled oats not any powdery quick stuff. 100g oats, 3 tbs dried milk powder, 2 tbs brown sugar, a good few big raisins 'flame?' and...

Re: Pour and store or...

My last trip I just used tescos own ziplock for porridge and had no taste issues. They are pretty floppy but then I had the brainwave of tearing off a corner and just squeezing it out in to my mouth like a piping bag. Much easier and not even a messed up spoon, just massage it and warm your hands at...

Re: Ticks + red meat allergy

They never mentioned it as an issue for cannibals  Just thought it might be worth knowing for those who get ticks and then have symptoms later and might not associate the two. The guy interviewed was a game keeper and has had to cut out red meat and carry an epipen just in case as he's always...

Ticks + red meat allergy

Just heard on radio Scotland that tick bites can react with later eating of red meat (mammalian meat) to produce and allegic reaction ( itching etc) maybe 4-5 hours later and even anaphylaxis. Obviously the connection isn't always obvious as it can be several hours later. Only reacts with red meat c...

Re: New digs

If you can get hold of one I have found my Vango Force 10 Helium 200 is excellent and only 1.3kg. I've used it in some pretty poor conditions and it can also be used without the inner. It's not big enough for two adults, but just right for one big bloke and space for his gear.

Re: How's your year panning out?

Its not really! Seem to embracing fat loving rather than fat fighting. Bad wrists have meant cortisone injections and made me a bit more wary about extended off road. My faroe isles venture got cancelled as Loganaire binned their new service before it even started. Just a refund for the flight and l...

Cheers Jameso, know the theory but need to practise it! In door rides at that pace are fine, I've struggled though outdoors with hills and wind. Tried MAF for a while in and out.
Just fitted a long cage and 11-36t for just that reason and for light touring (obviously not road bikepacking :???: )

Re: The SR/SR series, 2017

Cheers, yeh. The stopping time was lengthened mainly due to a very slow serving cafe stop half way and a lengthy chat with work colleagues who stopped me until I said I needed to move on because i was getting cold. Avoiding a cafe and buying a shop snack would have been much more efficient as well a...

Re: The SR/SR series, 2017

I'm pretty much in envy of those doing all these super long rides, both the ability to do them and having the time to do them, and recover for family and work. I did my first solo 200k a few weeks back (actually 204k) in 10hours overall time (8.5hr moving), but was very much struggling the last 2 ho...

Re: Plantar fasciitis

The thing that's worked for me is the frozen bottle, golf ball rolling under the foot and extended stretching and trigger point massaging of the calf muscles. I've had a cortisone injection under the heel and it was hellish to have and painful for a few days afterwards before it kicked in. Helped fo...

Knee Cartilage rehab??

Hi, any experiences with knee cartilage rehab here? I've already had one arthrosopy on my right knee medial meniscus about 6 years ago and its just recently got pretty bad again, not sure why but then an accidental twist of it seems to have made the job complete. Painful to bend and walk, tried a ge...
