Re: Folding bike packing

I've also been toying with a folder for easier travel to places and had a few eyes up, the Montague's navigator being one along with terns.

I want the bigger wheels, nearly normal bike size but with some foldability for less hassle transport on bus/train/plane and backpacking.

Re: Folding bike packing

I think Alastair Humphreys had his pack raft on there. He did a Shetland 'end to end' on it cycling and rafting across two very tidal sounds along with bivvying. About 70miles cycling and 2-3miles rafting.

Re: How afraid should we be of ticks and Lyme disease?

Just to add from my post a few weeks back. If you get bitten by a tick and are unlucky it can result in an allergic reaction to red meat, even as bad as anaphylaxis some hours after eating. If it does happen you'll need to avoid red/mammalian meat for some considerable time. Heard it discussed on th...

Cliffhanger... What was Mike bartering with the shop owner for?! I need to know! Its funny my wife and I did a little tour recently on Orkney and she managed with two lightly packed rear panniers. She did have a small frame bag though that she joked was just the right size for her hair strai...

Haha, yeh chicken-packing is the new high fat low carb thing! One in each XL stem cell and after a jiggly ride just remove hen to access eggs. The last night of a trip you have roast chicken on your fire with coffee in a jar :-bd I'm booked to be away in the cairngorms area early September so we'll ...

Re: Advice on using your phone as a bike computer / GPS

But if you don't want to invest in a dedicated GPS, I'm sure you can get away with using your phone, on short rides. Until you need to make a call, and find there isn't much power left. Or you can just carry an old/cheapo text/call phone that has a battery that last forever if you're worried about ...

I chose to wear some gtx trail shoes (not boots) with flats recently on a small Orkney road tour with my wife as I knew we'd only be pootling on the bike and walking about a fair bit being tourists. Out of habit I wore seal skins anyway and I'm glad I did as a day of heavy rain on road on day one le...
