Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Looks good and certainly longer than my DD version. A bargain price too! :-bd I'll be interested to hear how you get on when you use it on a night out.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

My hammock isn't actually a DD version, it's my old Army one. It served me very well in various jungles around the world and is still going strong. Although after the end cords got a bit worn, I cut them off and now use heavier duty nylon straps. Sticking with the hammock theme, I recently bought an...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

It’s taken me a few days to get round to this but here goes... last Wednesday I headed off towards Pencaitland in East Lothian, to a patch of woodland I'd used last year. I remember thinking then that the area would be ideal for a bit of hammock camping and now was the perfect opportunity to try out...

Re: Fat Fighters '23

I’m in this year, for the first time, having never felt the need in previous years. However, I’ve been gradually piling on weight since around the middle of last year. This was due to a number of factors, not least of which was some 'life stuff' leading to less cycling and physical activity in gener...

"Most ridiculously epic Bivvy" eh Phil? Looking back, it was a bit mad right enough but rest assured I'll not be looking to repeat the experience in '23! Thanks very much for taking the trouble to sift through everything and compile the final list of finishers. Now looking forward to...

Re: Bivvy a month 2022

In the back room, now wood paneled and with bunks - I'd humpfed up three (3!) fire logs so these went in my own fire rather than the stove as the others had brought plenty coal with them (I told them of Bridget aka Borderer's efforts to drag 15kg of coal up from Eskdale muir to here in 2019) An epi...

Thanks but that's way too kind of you Reg. Moving swiftly on, it's hard to believe a week has already passed since those shenanigans in the snow. I've a feeling my January BAM will be a less complicated affair, though.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

Thanks Phil. I remember thinking in the midst of all that snowfall that, as bad as things were, at least I was at relatively low level and not suffering a whole lot more up in the hills. Rest assured you did the right thing mate!

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

Good question Sean. I’d certainly not have been reduced to walking quite so soon but as the snow got deeper and damper I’d not have been able to keep riding it all. However, even if I’d have been forced to push the bike, the fatter tyres would’ve been much less likely to dig in. Right now I’m having...

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy 10/12/22

I’ve finally found time to write up my Scottish Winter Bivvy experience. And an experience it certainly was. As mentioned earlier in the SWB thread, I arrived in Ballater the day before the planned bothy meet. I then drove to the Spittal of Glen Muick car park and walked the 3 miles in to th...

Glad to hear you're home safe too Jimmy. Well done on getting to the bothy, must have felt like the promised land after the slog in! It certainly did Dave. I was actually surprised to find it empty (and no welcoming fire on  ). I’d seen two ski tracks heading that way but on arrival at the b...
