chain lengths etc
sooo, I expect the singlespeeders can help me out. I've been messing about building the rohloff bike up and have found that with my chosen 16T rear and 37t front I have a small chain issue. Fitted as it is now theres about 3mm tyre clearance to the little chainstay brace. If I add another link, 26mm...

That's disappointing. I always held respect for JayP but writing that post whilst leading that training camp is a shame.

Re: brake hose / bar bag interfaces
its annoying than it should be isnt it! Apparently, so im told my M785's are different again. Although I'm not convinced. Its difficult to find full specs for the fittings for various brakes. Thinking back I'm sure I've seen hopes with banjo fittings, possible some older formula ones. The hunt is on.

brake hose / bar bag interfaces
So, Brake hoses are annoying me. Sounds strange I know, but basically, with the levers positioned where I like them they are angled down quite a bit. This means that when I fit a bar harness the brake hoses come under considerable pressure. So far they have survivied but I don’t know if they would l...

Theres a lot of wooly areas in the rules I think, or at least a lot of people arguing over it :D I recall reading somewhere that some people class talking to family on mobile phones as support (emotional) and others feel its fine for familys to show up in town and have a meal together, give encorage...

Re: Most flexible gear cable outer?
You could use brake outer for the required section, its coiled steel and much flexier as I'm sure you know. Your shifting feel would certainly suffer. You might need to overshift a little bit to make it shift if you use too long a section. I’ve done it on a road bike before, temporarily, I forget wh...

They 'should' be pretty similar due to the construction. Straight steel wires encased in plastic etc.

Re: GPS - Garmin etrex 20 maps 'n' stuff
I had a doakota 20 for a while. its rather good. I would 'bag it' in the worst mud as the mud gets under the edge of the screen and when wet seems to confuse the touch screen (its rare) Also, deffinately pop a safety loop on it to catch it if it pings off. mine did this once and a couple more times ...

Garmin Oregon 20s back in at handtec for £130ish and I've ordered some of those maps from that website that screams "dodgy"..... Will the Oregon 20 accept OS maps ? The eTrex 20/30 actually mentions OS style mapping but the Oregon only mentions Topo maps. I didnt know there was such a dev...

Re: New to it all and looking for advice please.
Lightweight tents cost a lot compared to a tarp, money that could be spent on other stuff. Being under a tarp also seems to add something extra to the whole experience. Agreed. Although I would advise to persevere with the tarp setup if tried. The first time I tried a tarp I want convinced by it. A...

Water carrying options?
So a little while ago I experimented with ditching the camelbak. It works fine for day rides with just a large bottle or even stuffing an extra coke bottle size, er, bottle in the jersey pocket. As soon as I went to an overnighter I had to get the camel bak back out to add 2 litres to the water capa...
