Re: Creating a .gpx route for Spain

I've done a bit of road work there between Bilbao and the Picos but can't really help you out with road routes, other than to say that there's some stunning scenery and landscapes to be cycled through. However, you could take a mountain bike instead...... http://cantabriaenbici.es/mapa-en.html http:...

Re: WRT - Thank you

It was a great WRT and nice to get to visit a part of England I've never really been to before ;-) Many thanks to Dee & Stu for the event. Cake bakers for the cakes. Chew for the route and Jake, Roy, Tim, Paul & Chew again for riding companionship. If you're ever in Shropshire again folks th...

Re: Bikepacking snackage

I have landed in the UK from Norway, with 1.5kg of edible Norwegian produce and some aquavit to share
I'll have one of the Kvikk Lunsj fingers and a few glasses of the akvavit. You can keep the 1.453kg of boiled cod though

Norwaycalling - that picture of the Kvikk Lunsj chocolate bar has been subliminally imprinted onto my mind. I've spent many a time on the Oslo T-bane with a small image of it flashing by on every bloody telegraph pole* between Gronland & Frognerseteren! *(I appreciate that some of that journey i...

If I unroll my camping mat out before you do then I'll snore as much as I like at Llyn Clywedog (famous for it's unique night time echo amplifying effect)

Re: Gear advice needed - Mat & Bag

I can't find a "packed size" for the Karrimor mat online...anyone have that info to hand? Mine (the 5cm thick version) fits nicely, rolled up tight, in an 8L Alpkit dry bag. A brilliant comfy mat for the price, and if mine was incinerated tomorrow in an unfortunate MYOG meths burner incid...

Re: Leg warmers - any recommendations?

Another recommendation for the cheap DHB ones. I used them last weekend on a bivi with a cutting easterly wind and they did the job without me overheating on the climbs out of the wind. I slept in them too and they stayed up all night (ie: didn't slither down to my ankles). I've got some Orca 3/4 me...

3 or 4 Fat Bike riders are thinking of a Newborough (Anglesey) bivi next Saturday 5th May.

Crikey, do the clocks go forwards a month up in your neck of the woods then?

Not a Wot the postie brought me today but more of a Charity Shop Bargain show & tell . Rooting around in a local shop the other day I found a moldy old stuff sack with a bit of interesting blue fabric sticking out of it. I extracted the rest of the bag contents and found a, slightly lumpy, old d...

Re: Morocco in Sep ... any interest?

Flights from Bristol in late September are showing around £150 return to Marrakech including the bike. It's just a possible pipe dream for me at present but I'll be following this thread with a keen eye. I've been meaning to go back to Morocco for a long, long time and my expected September trip to ...

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

I hope this hasn't caused too much stress, guilt and grief to Ian, Beth & Stuart (and anyone else involved) I look forwards to it happening at a later date* but will understand if it becomes too complicated or bureaucratic to be run as a 'mass' event. Happy to do it as a paying event though if t...

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

Done any training? Gonna bother? Did an 85km road ride on Saturday with 2000m of climbing, so roughly equivalent to half the 100mile route (but on Tarmac!). Going to do another long road ride with climbs on Thursday. Then maybe a couple of 30K rides a week until half-term when I've got time for som...

Re: I'm Looking for Some New Waterproof Cycling Trousers....

I've got the Atomic DT jacket. It's very breatheable and has held out against torrential rain in the Alps but I have torn it in a couple of places* just going about my everyday mountain biking business, so am not too convinced on the durability. I've found my Superlite shorts excellent, having done ...

Re: Long Distance Road Routes Across Europe

There are some established trans-Europe routes that a lot of roadies do, as extended lightweight credit card tours, but would be almost as fast if done with a lightweight bivi set-up. Brindisi - Calais, Trafalgar to Trafalgar, Nice to Roscoff to name a few. Details are probably available on the Auda...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

The Uniqlo ultra light down is well worth having. It fits under your cycling cut waterproof (unless it's already a tight fit) when you're hanging around camp and knocks your sleeping bag up a season or two if you sleep in it. However, there are a lot of other companies in on the act now and you can ...

Take a bike like that on a transcontinental journey and the front & rear wheels would frequently be in different time zones!
