Good idea, and very sensible when out with a bivi. I don't tend to stop until it's dark, a mile today is a mile not needing done tomorrow etc...Ray Young wrote: Ride whilst it's light. Sleep whilst it's dark.

Re: Cairngorm loop May B/H
There is a lot of rain forecast for the next week. Are there any river crossings that are likely to become particularly dangerous? My friend and I binned a social August attempt after the Geldie went into spate after a night of very heavy rain. We had slept in the ruined cottage (ignore the "u...

I've got one that has had about two months of use from me - 700 miles or so, but loads of life left. I'm just replacing it with a 120tpi hence wanting rid. £25? I would prefer collection or meeting up (Edinburgh) as I don't want to fold it to post it. Are you doing the Cairngorms Loop by any chance ...

What you then find is a wooden stile. THE stile... It's a monster to go over with a loaded bike. I looked at it, tried lifting my bike, and then gave up. If you drop down as close to the river as possible, the fence is lower, so I threw my bike over there, hoped it wouldn't bounce into the river, a...

Tom and I are doing an ITT starting on Friday the 29th. Hopefully we'll be done in time for him to get back to school a week on Monday. If I'm back in Tyndrum in time (unlikely!!) I'll wave you off. That's a big step up from the Puffer, good luck! Did I imagine hearing it was being done on a tandem...

Are we having a 10am start this year or earlier like last year? That will influence your breakfast choice in Blair Athol. In Pitlochry there will be a few places open early, perhaps even Greggs for the full carb loading...

Do the whole thing going up, cut out the nasty bits coming back  . I did it at the end of April and walkers were not a problem. Yep, they're only a problem on certain trails at certain times. Fit a bell, use it. You'll find the trail is pretty dead outside the hours of 9am to 4pm as people te...

How worn and would you sell it? I've got a compressor so tubeless mounting isn't an issue.Ian wrote:Bit late now, but my Saguaro was a total nightmare to mount, and it now sits on the shelf in an virtually unused state.

Do as much of Glentress as you can bear, then take the black route to the lowest point on Deliverance. There's a wee path out of Glentress past a farm and many gates, then you can descend to the main road. Head past Cardrona and take the back road to Traquair and then the Innerleithen XC. You can ei...

Well done Ray, it is indeed a pretty brutal ride although I understand that there might be a revision of the Dun bicycle part at least.
I think I used about ten minutes of candle and one match from the bothy but it appears to have had minimal use as it was pretty tidy when I was there

Saguaro on a Rapid here (a Crest with eyelets). A good tyre until they wear down and the centre ridge becomes more prominent, then they turn into road tyre levels of grip. I'm thinking of putting one onto a Flow on the back of my Stooge to go with a Knard up front.

Chris, I don't know if you remember the Oakleys I had when we met, but they're the photochromic lenses so are perfect for the type of event you're talking about. I wore mine pretty much all the time from dawn until well into the night and they were perfect. Not cheap, but given how well they worked ...

My current tires are Nobby Nicks, which are good in the mud, and set up tubeless easy, but they are very slowww  I found the Nics that Merlin had half price to be rubbish to seal tubeless. The sidewalls aren't as strong as I'd like either given that one blew up on me earlier this week... Sagu...

I've had a Bel Air for a couple of years but it's pretty worn, so I bought a Cambium C15 second hand, and it has been surprisingly good. I think the lack of padding makes it comfier as there is less to pinch and cause rubbing. I wish I could afford to put a Cambium on each of my bikes but luckily th...

Just plot a map on Bikehike and you can transfer it direct to the Garmin. I use it with an Edge 500 with no issues at all.

I'm still debating which bike to take. My El Mariachi saw me through last year, but since getting my Stooge it hasn't been ridden at all. I will be using a dynamo hub up front on a Flow, and if the El Mar gets chosen probably a 2.2 Nic, but if Stooge a 3.0 Knard as it's rigid. Train-wise, get booked...

$35 for a Weldtite £6 tubeless kit stuck to bar plugs?!? Is there anything else that this thing is that the cheaper option isn't?
I'll combine bargain bar plugs and the Weldtite kit, sell it for £20 and make a decent profit...

I did about 95% of the route over the weekend. The thought of a climb up into the Pentlands in the wind and snow was enough to make me decide to take the road home instead. I managed just over 6000m ascent over 238km, 35:30 elapsed and 21hrs moving (I slept last night in Minch Moor bothy without an ...

I'm in too. I can't offer a lift unfortunately as I'm driving up with someone else. Last year I took the train up and it was deserted, arriving in Blair at 8:57 so in good time. Can't help on the food front, but the double zipper Ziploc bags from Amazon are great for reheating meals, porridge bags, and as a substitute for a dry bag for your phone and wallet.
