Wtd: 26 inch QR lightweight forks
The DT Swiss forks on my old Stumpy hardtail singlespeed have now gone past their safe use limit (the brake caliper mounts have stripped, having been bodged for a few years), so I am on the lookout for some lightweight race type forks. Need to be straight steerer, QR, 26 inch with good stanchions. P...

Re: ITT gear reduction
Take the compulsory kit list only if you are not stopping. Do you need tubeless repair kit and tubed repair kit? No cooking kit. Your tools and spares add up to a big weight - try and lose some here - lighter tube, lighter multitool and spanner. Leave the sleep mat, the windshirt at home (waterproof...

Re: Tarp tent advice
What's the advantage of a single skin tarp tent (seems to be circa 800g with poles) over an ultralight tent (TN laserlite) at 850g with outer and inner etc? Or just use the outer of the Laserlite at 500g?

Re: That was exciting - diesel over revving!!
Yes Stu, checked the dipstick and it's a bit low but ok, will check the crancase breather tomorrow.
It must be 25 years old, so a good chance of shot bores or rings, just surprised it didn't seize or throw a rod.

That was exciting - diesel over revving!!
Our neighbour is really nice - he has every outdoor machine known to man and is really generous when it comes to lending them out. I borrowed his diesel powered pedestrian flail machine - a monster of a thing that flails undergrowth, self propelled and you walk behind to steer (there are so many pul...

Re: Boring.....29er Tyres.....
Have fallen out of love with the racing ralphs on the rear of my hardtail - even the tubeless ready snakeskin versions seemed easy to puncture the sidewall on. Have invested in Maxxis Ikons and I have to say that as a rear tyre it excelled last weekend in muddy, gloopy, sloppy conditions. No huge mo...

I ride the bikes I enjoy riding, some are old, some are newish, all are enjoyed: My 2002 Stumpy FSR - sold my car to pay for it but wow, what a bike. Still got it but it has morphed into a wide barred bigish tyred trail centre bike (with only 100mm forks and 90mm rear). Suppose i should be ashamed o...

There must be a market for those of us with SPOT trackers to rent them out. Either a shared ownership of the subscription or a straight rental.

Re: Luggage Choices
When I started I had a drybag strapped to the bars, and it worked ok, but was a right faff to take on and off. With a bar harness the faff only happens once when I get the bike prepared, and then each on/off. Is much easier. For saddlebags, I can only assume they stop you getting off the back of the...

Re: One bike?
I used to have only 1 bike, then found it was compromised at most things (slow on road, heavy for racing, a bit crap off road) it was a 1998 steel frame Dawes hardtail. Then bought another bike of a different sort, then it slowly went out of control.

Re: Where it started for you
Loved camping as a kid, when we all piled into the car to go on holiday with the caravan, I would have a little ridge tent that was my escape. Got to 14 and had a few youth hostel trips with a bunch of mates, fond memories even now. Fast forward to the early 2000's, and entered a couple of Polaris's...

There's nothing set in stone yet George. However, I did say that it would be a deviation from the norm. Also, I'm hoping that whatever rules are imposed will be seen as an opportunity for some lateral thinking and ingenuity  Sounds like the sort of thing a 3 speed shopper drop bar cross bike ...

Is she the same lady from the jersey order thread? May convince me it's worth the trip south! Said lady, is often to be found hanging out with boners*. *Careful now. No, this one had brown eyes :-bd I think I remember where she is, but I don't want you smelly tramps sniffing around.

Re: Power Meters in Bikepacking
I like the thought of power meter training, but the reality I suspect is very different. To see how much you put out during a given hill or fast bit would be interesting, but to train to? Not sure about that. A friend of mine started a proper structured training plan with heart rate, power, fat meas...

Richard, getting the ferry to Rosslare, then driving to Waterford for a day, then working our way to the Ring of Kerry and then up to Galway, then across to Dublin for a day or so and the ferry back from Dublin. Camper vanning it so no firm ties or plans.
