Re: Bivvy a month 2019

August 20th - just ! Severe attack of CBA lately probably some of it being brought on by my idea of 2 months ago of building a wildlife pond ! Severely affected my bike riding. i had tussocks 2 feet tall, and with just a shovel I cleared everything and produced a deepish pond (3 feet at deepest, the...

Re: Usa

Mike I have a Zpacks Hexamid, had it for two years.... Very light... and a doddle to pitch. The bathtub could do with being deeper (on the Plexamid it is a lot deeper). And the storm doors are difficult to get right (I use tent pegs to peg them down). The fastener for when you want to fold the doors...

Re: Safe Route To The Lakes From Formby

If you want a proper off-road Route (we are off roaders aren’t we ?): Formby to canal at Burscough ( John Climber Moore’s Winter Bivvy Route) Follow canal to Wigan then to Adlington (Bridge 64) Bit of road to get through Adlington (but you can avoid most of it by leaving main road, and going via qui...

Too many rats in a basket and they start biting one another.... ? Re: Garmin edge 530 opinions please

Took the Edge 530 on a bit of a ride this afternoon, primarily to get to know its navigation features a bit better. I rode on a course from a gpx, which I copied into the ‘Newfiles’ folder on the device (plug it into your PC via USB, and view it via Windows Explorer) All fine whilst on the course- h...

Re: Garmin edge 530 opinions please

Decided to buy an Edge 530 about 4 weeks ago, despite all the many glitches and bugs as via DC Rainmaker’s forum. I got 10% off via DC Rainmaker from Clever Training UK (£234) Have relied on Dakota 20 for multi-day, with several batteries... it’s quite a bit of weight. The Edge 530 does have an exce...

Re: Close encounters with the wild kind!

I could go on (and on and on) about my close encounters with snakes in Australia, Blue Mountains, when I had 5 days alone with a map, no compass, a very small plastic tent... and limited water Nearly stood on a red-bellied black snake 2 days from civilisation... scared the sh1t out of me, turned rou...

No not as far as the gate (over which is road)... and besides no need if you’re going into Tockholes to hit the tarmac. 20 feet before the tarmac there’s a gate.... go that way Back to the theme: About 200 metres before all that (the gate and the road) there is a track leading up right, it’s that wa...

Hi Andy, thx for the info. Did a ride last year (a big circular..... “investigating” like I do, included some great bits of RW (Rossendale Way) above Cliviger, no people, just curlews and ST (single track) and eventually via Rising Bridge got above the Grane Road looking down on Ogden Res. Don’t know where you’re starting from, but if west of Parbold, canal to Wigan, and continue canal to Adlington (Bridge 64 I think), then a bit of road to Rivington (but there are options to reduce that a bit :-bd From Rivington many possibilities but as Andy says link up with MTL I can get you there...

Getting maps onto GPS (Garmin Edge 530)

Got my Edge 530 this morning. Anybody know how to get decent maps onto it (with contours and FPs and BWs etc) Been using Edge 800 (and Dakota) and I can’t remember how I got the maps on. They are GB Discoverer 1:50k Garmin suggest buying BirdsEye Select (whatever that is), it’s £100 for whole of U.K.
