Anybody got one lying about before I buy new? Sunrace M96, Microshift SL, Dura Ace, or even old school Deore/XT thumbies? (Wish I hadn't sold my pair of those).
Just want a friction thumbie for my 2x10 setup.

Could be, I've also got standard ones with the same grip mould, no problems with them.Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 7:27 am Perhaps only an issue on the XL version? I've sold hundreds of standard sized straps and never had one returned.

They sent me some new ones which have different grips. Seems like the older moulds were the problem.

Re: Faulty Voile straps, anyone else?
Just got an email back from Bikemonger who said they've got some newer stock with a different grip moulding, so it sounds like it might be an issue with an older batch. They will raise it with Voile. Can't fault the service from Bikemonger but was surprised at the issue with these straps as they've ...

Currently running an Aliexpress knockoff of the Raceface Chester. These are nylon bodied but have taken hard rock hits with barely even any cosmetic damage and have sealed bearings + replaceable pins. The shape is comfortable and the grip is immense (I came from SPDs and didn't think a non-spud peda...

Faulty Voile straps, anyone else?
Bought some green XL Voile Straps from Bikemonger. Took them out on a 2-weeker in Scotland and one broke almost immediately - the 'tail' or pull tab came off. On closer inspection I noticed damage to the other strap too - a small crack or nick below the lower-most rib on the tail. See pic. Returned ...

A pair of "Menora" 4 pot brakes from AliExpress. Essentially rebadged Clarks M4s which are totally unavailable anywhere - even asked Clarks themselves who have none. These seem totally spot on and were £41 for the pair, delivered from China in a week. They're even right hand front/left ha...

Re: Going straight
Inspired by Geowizard’s YouTube videos? He did a straight line across the whole of Scotland… no Cairngorms but he did have to sneak through a plywood factory and across a high-speed rail line, which I don’t think impressed McPlod. the geowizard videos are great - Wales and Norway particularly good,...

I'd be interested in the stem cells. Depending on where in Mid Wales you are I might be able to collect. PMd.

WTD: cook pots + cockpit/stem/top tube bag(s)
After a simple pan set to supplement my existing gear. A saucepan and fry pan/lid would be just fine. Would need to be in good condition with nothing stubbornly burnt onto the bottom. Obviously TI is nice but aluminium is good. Also looking for half-decent quality stem or top tube bags. Like Alpkit ...

second the longer b-screw, I managed to clear either a 40 or 42 tooth cog on a 1x9 system with an old Deore M592 (can't remember). Worked well, suspect it would work here too.

I'm loath to revive a dead thread but I have the same question and was wondering how much has changed in the past 3 years since this was posted. Was already looking at the Tarbet spot. No changes that I'm aware of. :-bd Good to know, cheers. Reading around a bit I saw there's been a lot of moaning about motorhomes and caravans in the Loch Lomond/Trossachs area, but doesn't sound like that'll have too much bearing on leaving a hatchback somewhere hopefully. It has been ridiculousl...

Length-for-length, those almost exactly the same price (and some of them are more expensive for the equivalent length) as Voile straps off of Bikemonger.

Been through tons of pairs of these the last year or two. They've all broken or failed somehow, except the Taotronics ones which I put in the oven by mistake. Tried variously Taotronics, Soundpeats, Anker, MPOW.... I'm now on the absolute best ones I've ever used - Anker Soundcore Life A1. Less than...

Re: down jacket recommendations
While down definitely doesn't like being soaked, a little moisture ain't going to be a problem. The shell material on most decent down jackets will keep a light shower at bay or give you enough time to get under cover if it's heavier. When it comes to "winter" down jackets - not going to ...

Re: down jacket recommendations
Just seen Decathlon have the green Forclaz/Quechua down jacket (not synthetic) for £40, not what OP is after really but with apparently 'responsible' down and decent fill power. Not the lightest or the warmest but looks like deals to me. To be honest I was thinking about down but for UK bikepacking ...

None of these ‘bike brands’ actually manufacture bearings though?? Just buy decent genuine bearings to fit whatever shells you already have, The only time I’ve spent big money on a bottom bracket was to convert a rubbish bb30 frame to run 24mm shimano and used a ride works screw together adaptor jo...

Re: What bottom bracket do you use?
I put a Rideworks on the singlespeed, seems like a notch up in quality over a Hope one. Only a few hundred miles so far but going good. Interesting, had not heard of that brand before. A bit cheaper even than a Hope. Can't see much online re: durability but I suppose the important thing is replacea...
