Re: Trans Cambrian Way - FKT number 2

Well done Matt the conditions looked very favourable, I thought when I did it last March that the ground was quite dry and the streams low (still the puddles on the sunken road last year were knee-deep as some enduro riders found out). I also made that wrong turn mistake, the singletrack is easy to ...

Re: A tent for the taller?

Whenever I put a 2" mattress into these tents my large head and large feet invariably brush the inner and I am only 6' tall. The bathtub floor might be long but the sloping roof starting so low always makes them much shorter in practice. Unfortunately the only way out of this for truely tall pe...

Re: £wise, spar or cafe?

Warm food is vital in winter and is well work spending more money for (plus sitting inside). I like flatbreads and cheese/salami or tortillas and Nutella in my framebag as I can eat whenever I want and not have to push when tired/hungry to find civilisation.

Re: Suggest a posh 8L welded drybag?

I was gonna suggest Lomo Thanks Ton/Colin.. They do seem nice don't they. I'm inclined towards summat with a bit more color mind as the yellow Exped really was eye catching (hopefully for traffic) on the way to work. Pity it only lasted one trip but it wasn't made to be squished like that lugged wi...

Re: Road bike price

I don't sell much on eBay but I often get fixed selling price offers where the total fee for a regular listing is only £1 rather than 10%. I sold a bunch of unloved gear for £350 and paid £15 fees.

Aye nay driving your van to outside the house in those days. I know of three - this one on Harris, the one by Loch Maree that the HT uses; and one running from the bottom of the Applecross road, round the southern coast of the peninsular to Arighig drishaig then over the hill to Applecross village ...

I have a Rab Vital and it is definitely windproof. Two hand pockets and packs away into a separate fist-sized stuff pocket.

Re: Another busy summer of BBQ, campfires and litter?

Perhaps the weather is terrible this summer and it rains every day, then it will return to "normal" and the outdoorsy types will be the only ones in the hills (though I suspect that small rural shops will rely on tourist numbers being huge to be able to survive another Covid year).

Re: Small bike frame bike packing help

The most space effective method I have seen for a XS frame is a rear rack with a 20L Sea To Summit River Dry Bag strapped horizontally, water bottles on the side of the down tube and on both fork legs, and cages on the front forks.

Re: Carbon neutralising deliveries and other plastic sparing 'goings on'!

Just before I start, I'm not sure but from some research of what's openly available of peoples commute info, it would appear I might just have the British (non verified) commute record  happy with that and am even thinking to get a part time job there - Scarbados - to drill it firmly into the...

Re: Bar bags... talk to me

Another one with an Revelate Egress pocket. I can fit my all the riding clothing/gloves and food I would need for a day. I did snap the closure buckle as it is part plastic but I bought a metal g-hook off of eBay and it is now super sturdy. Fits easily inside 42cm hoods but it does encroach a bit on...

Re: Man's best friend

The first thing we did with our farm collie was to control food and to control toys. Put food in her bowl, allow her one bite and then take bowl away and let her know we had the bowl, and continue until the bowl is empty. Food protection was never an issue (I gather this is more of a hunting dog pro...

More VeloViewer squares today. I was planning the walk last night and it came to 22km which I thought was a bit much given I've not done high/long for a while. Got it down to 17km but it was nice today I actually went further than planned and ended up with 24km. Crampons & ice axe wielded for t...

Re: Mull and Ardnamurchan

More pondering on this. Is there a route suitable from Glenfinnan to kinglochhourn without going up the canal then cutting accross from Invergarry so more up the west side? I see a couple of options but not clear on terrain? The Cape Wrath Trail is the most direct route but is quite damp/not a well...

My crank fell off! Went out for my evening exercise, got about 5km into a 40km ride and at the bottom of a steep hill my left foot moved slightly on one pedal stroke and on the next it was on the ground still clipped in... Luckily there was a flatish forestry road almost all the way home so I dabbed...

When thinking of the WHW, I was going to have an overnight in Fort William, instead I'll have an extra night out. It's also cyclable to/from My Folks too, so no need for trains. Is there a map/route I can see for this? Googling seemed to only lead to Facebook which wouldn't let me go further until ...

Garmin Basecamp (which I think is still a free download) works fine, you can move, add or remove individual points. When you join them it tells you which order they will be joined, then makes a new GPX file.

Re: BOA vs Northwave SLW2

I have used Boa in summer and SLW in winter with no issues for three years. I do find that the Northwave is quicker to undo and to get off, the Boas tend to draw grit into the mechanism which might require some light encouragement.
