Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

Or is it just his take on it all? He's a pro rider, it's part of the job to get publicity from his actions whether that's his priority or not. Loud bikes, breakaways, wins, things like this, just being fast in the first place, it's all publicity for the opportunities that come with it. And he's got ...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

You were allowed to take a GPS unit but it was placed in a sealed bag. At the end of the race the bag was checked, if the seal was broken you were DQ'd but you had the device there if the poo hit the rotating thing and you really needed it. That's the same as the old GDR rule on phones iirc. Since ...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

Not sure someone encouraging you and telling you that you are doing great and smashing it and t your followers will love this is as awful as you suggest for your mentality..if it was you would need to claim his way is harder than Mike's /a self supported ITT? That's kind of my point about smartphon...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

I don't think I see Lael Wilcox's or Lachlan Morton's filming as an performance aid relative or additional to that, at least not when they're proven capable soloists already. He interacted with them.didnt he ? They were not simply filming him as he said pre ride it would be weird to not speak to hi...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

 all the supported/self-supported stuff aside that's an amazing ride. Above all that, I like his approach to ride/rest. I expect you need some real fitness+speed to manage that though. Cue argument as to whether its an FKT.... ok then... If he was unsupported for supplies and mechanica...

Fwiw as I have the same unit, I create routes and download as gpx track then just drag n drop into the (edit, corrected) New Files folder location in the Garmin.

Ultra more than Hyper or less I wonder
How long till we have Hyper-Distance events? #hyperdistance anyone?

I've read a bike described as a hyper bike. Like hyper cars. Almost made me hyper ventilate

Re: How is it .....

When I had my ti frame made I went for the usual large diameter seat tube (as you would for a strong, exped capable bike) and for flex I can insert a sleeve and thin eg 27.2 mm seatpost... did the same to two rigid steel frames. This is the way to do it. I've had 3 shimmed Ti frames, all good. Firs...

Restrap has a few new products but this I like a lot https://restrap.com/products/light-mount That is very neat, and solve the issue of how to mount an Exposure Blaze when you've got a saddle harness on. Will be buying at least one... I saw the same thing done well with a couple of spare top caps a...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

My analogy would be alpine style vs expedition style. Or siege style vs. exped style. Alpine style in bikepacking is tricky to come by (would mean autarkic, absolutely no tracks to ride on, no infrastructure, nada), but it surely pushes things into more adventure. An interesting angle about the lev...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide

I like how he talks about the support and official records. Maybe it's time to talk about classes of fkt in a similar way to climbing having on sights and practiced ascents. You rarely if ever could climb your top grade on sight and a supported ride may be less pure in some ways. The solo ITT may be...

Re: New long distance Cycle UK route in Wales - Traws Eryri

The bigger picture in all this is, of course, access - seven years ago (as a volunteer at that point) I set out on a plan to try and soften the image of mountain biking (&/or off-road cycling) that came across to politicians & other groups when access was discussed - because what I was hear...

Re: Blagging bike boxes in Nice?

Options I've used in Nice - Dumpster-diving for cardboard Going to a bike shop for some planned-ahead boxes, then taxi to train station (the Specialized store is good, turns over more bikes than most so has more boxes and they were happy to have help disposing of them) Airport boxes, used 2 or 3x, b...

Re: New long distance Cycle UK route in Wales - Traws Eryri

I like how this starts very close to where the Trans Cambrian Way ends. I'm not convinced about any economic benefits. If someone didn't do that new route they would probably have spent time in another place instead - zero sum How about if it encourages someone from the UK to ride in Wales because i...

Yep the range is 17.5-30km/h and luckily no mud guard’s required. No guards.. what is this crazy talk? :) No problems to ride w/o them, just good to stay out of bunches if the roads are wet unless the bunch are ok with sprayers, don't pull in I'm front of someone etc. Excessively bright and/or flas...

Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead

Rockbus - give us a 4 fig grid ref of where you live (quick search suggests Warwickshire) and we can maybe plan a few short jaunts/set a few challenges - as a nudge to get you out.
