Re: Coping with endless rain... Winter
Ctznmith nice write up and very much along my thoughts with one variation. I only use gaiters in showery conditions where there will be some sun some rain some wind and large puddles. Over trousers from the lower end of the cost spectrum full length with zips at the ankles for use on those days when...

Re: Map/Route planning tool, call for input
What about hardware? I would like something about A5 ruggedised, colour screen, buttons but would settle for touch screen, built in SPOT and comms via cell phone but also modular so can deactivate items when not needed. Runs off chargeable power source without loss of function and or dynamo charging...

Re: GPS and Map questions
As you were cracked it. Knew if I pressed enough buttons I would make it work but in this case one button too many. Almost got an SDW with water taps. Actually found the symbol and therefore position is already on BaseCamp but too small and you have to know where they are in order to find them so hu...

Re: GPS and Map questions
Wrong question so I will try again. Using SDW as an example how could I register the location of water taps on my gps without including them in the route? Similarly how can I mark the location of a Spar, Tesco, chippy, cafe, 24 hour garage or bike shop (other supply places might be available) on a r...

GPS and Map questions
I am in using BaseCamp for the purposes of the gps questions. I recently was given a WC2C gps track courtesy of BBnorm of this parish for which I am very grateful. Displayed at the start of the track when loaded is a list of ‘food and drink’ sites ie Spar Tesco etc. I have had a look at the sites as...

Look forward to seeing the European listing.

Re: Monstercross - Side Swing Front mech compatibility and S
As the title - i know that the cable pull is different on the old MTB front mechs and STI so it was not possible (or not very useable) to mate a triple or double Shimano MTB front mech to a Shimano STI lever. Just ran across this while looking for something else. http://productinfo.shimano.com/#/co...

Half a bag better than none?
While looking for something else I ran across this an OMM half bag (no photo as their photos too small) https://www.theomm.com/product/mountain-raid-pa-1-0/ Apologies if discussed before but anyone got one or tried one and rejected it? To me it needs a bivvi bag and mat and might be a lightweight wa...

Re: Monstercross - Side Swing Front mech compatibility and S
Ha currently wading through the new XT 2 x 11 groupset. I used the CRC groupset builder - what could possibly go wrong? Quite a bit in my case as got both derailleurs wrong which represent about one third of the overall cost so having to send all items back to exchange two. If you look on the Shiman...

Gone - Shimano XT M8025 Front Derailleur
Bought the wrong bit again and as it is a part generated inside a Groupset Builder ie all items are one part I would have to return the entire Groupset in order to change the item. Anyway may loss is your gain as have for sale a Shimano XT M8025 Front Derailleur. This is the down pull, high clamp, f...

Re: Etrex hiccups. - keeps shutting down randomly/crashing.
Sorry for the hijack but how do you get your etrex to give you turn warnings? Anything I tell you might be wrong. Go to Setup-Tones-Turn Warnings and switch it on. My very limited understanding is that there may or may not be a ‘way point’ associated with the turn point. I believe the trick is to p...

Re: So does anyone fancy a South west winter bivy?
I am hedging over this one, as might have no bike, tent, or lights. Bike and tent up for sale lights already sold. I might have new bike assembled and commissioned by then and shelter and lights can be easily sorted Been doing a bit of research to try to pick a spot to bivvy. Postbridge looks good a...

Re: Etrex hiccups. - keeps shutting down randomly/crashing.
Is it off or merely resting? I followed instructions for battery saving on my etrex as I was only getting about ten or twelve hours battery life. It now switches off after one minute but so far haven't got it to start again to give me warnings at junctions although its programmed to. I have to press...

I just ordered some before coming on here this morning.
I was reading in another place that you should apply wet and that the 'credit card trick really works' as shown on a link that no longer works.
Anyone any tips on applying?

I believe it's only a question of time until someone will have a go on the full HT in winter.
I seem to remember someone doing or attempting all Munros during December and January couple of years ago.
Other than stalking/hunting season why not?

Just being tight but not paying £27 for spacers to match headset and would need two packs as got 65mm to play with excluding stem. Can anyone point me at 11/8", plain, unbranded, black, alloy spacers, 20mm, 15mm, 10mm and 5mm options please? Checked the usual suspects Superstar (none) Halfords ...

Absolutely no problem.
My thinking was fetch up at Aberdeen Station off the overnight train and quickest way to CG Loop.
Can you have such a thing as too easy a ride?

Ardnamurchan if your doing self supported is a complete pain to get to. Isn't that the point if it was easy it wouldn't be as much fun? I take your point though that if you start or finish at Ardnamurchan it would be a pain. The route I have in planning finishes at a remote spot with no dire...
