Re: If we close up for a bit...
There is obviously no such thing as "zero" risk in life. The Government cannot define every nuance of activity in our lives. The emphasis has moved now to us using our "common sense". It might be of interest to know what the latest advice is from the British Mountaineering Counci...

Lunar Solo - I love this. - I grin from ear to ear whenever I pitch it and get in (and I'm 6'1"). Outdoor Research Helium Bivy bag (with midge head net) - For stuff like the Highland Trail where I might want/need to stop anywhere. - I can just about get changed in fully zipped up but would usu...

(SOLD): Alpkit Ordos 2 Tent (including Footprint) - Superb condition
I am selling our Alpkit Ordos 2 ultralight tent plus the optional footprint. Green colour. We have only slept in it a couple of times. - It is in superb condition. (The reason for selling is that we have adopted a child and so now need a 3-person tent instead!). [The price on the Alpkit website is c...

Re: Turn any bivvy into a hooped bivvy*.
Nice ! - The alloy poles on my good old Pheonix Phoxhole GoreTex hooped bivvy have split in places and are held together with Gorilla tape, so I am interested in this as a potential replacement. The bag itself is over 20 years old and still works brilliantly well if a tad heavier than the latest mod...

Question about Rock n Run for folk who've bought off them before. I bought a hammock in their Thermarest flash sale. When will it appear? That sale seems to be over now - well, all the hammocks have been bought. I received the MSR Carbon Reflex 3 tent in their recent flash sale on Tuesday. I ordere...

Re: map subscriptions
I love the "Fly Through" function for GPX routes with OS maps online. - I am using that to re-live the HT550 route. - It obviously doesn't make up for the cancellation of this year's event but helps me in to recall the experiences.

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2020
Absolutely !
I am consoling myself by regularly following the whole route using the "Fly Through" function on the OS Online mapping (3D Satellite mapping) on a relatively slow setting. - It's not much, but it helps me re-live it a bit.

Here's my one to/from our home in Chinley - including lots of popular Dark Peak climbs. - It's also an extension of Andy's route above to give a really big day out or a nice weekender!

Re: closing national parks, and imposing fines?
I live on the edge of Peak park and have been exercising on the bikepacking bike, but staying "on-road" on quiet back lanes to minimise the risk of injury and to avoid touching any gates. There are plenty of popular outdoor spots around here that are not within the Peak park boundaries so ...

Re: Dales Divide 2020 .. who's going?
I had only just signed up to the Dales Divide 2020 yesterday after an Easter trip to Majorca was canned and then hearing about the news about the Highland Trail 550. Listening to the Cycling Podcast today about the experiences and thoughts albeit of pro road cyclists in counties such as Italy and Sp...

"Pod" was how the landlord described it and what the key ring said. As Alex says, "shed" is the accurate term. It was like a palace to us mind

Alex might have been "dead" on the Saturday night but the beers did the trick because he rode a heavily-laden hardtail up and down a sodden Garburn Pass without a single dab. It's an ace route, but really tough. - The record is showing as 21.5 hours for the route which is mind-boggling. In...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?
Just noticed that Protegear are now offering for InReach devices daily tracking (Euro 2.95) or 4 x Weekends (Fri-Sun) tracking (Euro 19.95) in addition to 7 day tracking (Euro 14.95) and monthly tracking options. You can keep it completely dormant or on a basic SOS plan between these plans: https://...

With the batteries in it weighs 133g whereas my 13,000mAh Aker weighs 241g so potentially a good "charge to weight" ratio too.

USB Power Banks using AA Batteries
I was wondering if anyone has used this or a similar USB Power Bank which takes 4 x AA batteries ? : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0168K5FTQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I thought it might be useful as a back-up for charging my GPS, InReach and Phone when there is no...

Okay then, if we're working within the confines of tight b'stard, then one of these. TS is way too big for what you need and requires two poles. This is bug proof so you can leave the bivvy at home, sets up very quickly and offers enough covered area for cooking etc. https://www.aliexpress.com/item...

With Protegear's data plans, can you stop them for a few months and restart without penalty ? or do you always need to have the SOS monthly plan as a minimum ?

Re: Another cable compression solution.
This is the side view. I had 2 x Nukeproof 25mm spacers beneath the Love Mud stem and I swapped the lower of these spacers for the Accessory Bar. The Accessory Bar itself seems a well made and solid item - no worries about tightening up the harness straps or limiting the luggage weight. I put an old...

Re: Another cable compression solution.
Yes - Searching back and finding that old thread helped me devise a solution so I was just adding to it in the hope it might help others. A cable sawed a hole in my (carbon) head tube last year - probably my incompetence in setting up the Lion. Also, after getting quite severe numb hands and losing ...

Re: Another cable compression solution.
Thanks for your ideas on here. I have used the accessory bar from SJS Cycles to mount my Wildcat Lion harness. - I am delighted with the results - It doesn't squash the cables and it leaves all the hand placements available. I had 2 x 25mm spacers and just swapped out the bottom spacer for the acces...
