Re: GPS signal disruption in NW Scotland

That's the SA (Selective Availability) signal, effectively it randomises the true location. It's not a true random signal as if you know the seed and how far in to the sequence you are then you can work out the real signal. GPS signals can be jammed, they are pretty low strength, but it's usually in...

A PHP sleeping bag from their spring sale. I was at work and had to guide the delivery man round the countryside to find us by phone  Also arrived (separately) a Wildcat seat pack.

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Walked in to Carnmore a few years ago during a dry spell to go climbing and the boggy bit in the forest was still there. There were one or two bikes parked up further along the track presumably taken in by people doing the remote Munros.

Yorkshire Dales 300

I'm sure there was a thread about this but I can't find it  I happened to have another look at the route and it seems that Stuart has made some alterations: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=qytxbpcdmfwzasdn It's now about 20Km shorter :-bd so closer to the 300Km mark. Just $21.49 Australian Dollars including postage about £11.12 all in. Not bad eh? Hardly worth the hassle of making one yourself. http://mountskidmore.com.au/ When I was very young I got a Meccano set for Christmas. I've been pilfering bits from it ever since to patch things up - possibly my best X...

Re: Tubeless 29er Tyres - Any Recommendations

I'm looking to go tubeless on the new bike. The tyres will be covering dusty Spanish mountainous trails in June, and the bike will be half-laden with gear for 8 days. I'm certain there will be a lot of humping the bike up big hills, so should I be looking at something as low-weight as possible? Wha...

All my bikes have different saddles, is that normal? Have bontrager, fizik, wtb and charge, all seem comfortable to me. Everyone I know who has tried the new Brooks synthetic saddle has given it the thumbs up :-bd Me too: Bontrager on the MTB; On-One on the, err, On-one; Specialized on the road bik...

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Thanks! I don't have a suspension fork, so I don't know anything else but riding rigid (all steel). It will be 2.35 (on 30 mm rims) for me. I'm considering 29+ for the front, but that might me a bit much. You could go 27.5+ which gives the same effective diameter as a 29er. It's something I'm consi...

I know there's an older thread or two about this but there's a piece on The Sandstone Way in the current edition of MBR (May 2015). It follows Rick Rothwell's ride North to South.

Re: Garmin / Strava and long rides (>24 hours)

I don't have your particular model but I've seen elsewhere that there's some file size limit on Garmins, it may be only some models though. You can use fitfiletools.com to stitch together Garmin FIT files so save your ride every 12hrs or so then stitch them together when you get home and import in t...

A set of On-One Mary handlebars and an On-One seatpost.

Got the bars as an experiment - a bit cheaper than the Jones H-bars, only £20 - to see if they suit me for longer less technical rides. Got the seatpost as my Reverb is back with Fisher being repaired and it's useful to have a spare.

Re: Multiday Bikepacking Menus

Very slight side-track: are the boil-in-the-bag bags a very specific item or will any of the supermarket freezer/food type bags do? I'd imagine that the supermarkets source things like this from only a handful of manufacturers. boil in the bags (like rice) are perforate so you drop them in the pan ...

Just got back from a loop round Ribblehead and Dentdale. There's still quite a bit of snow on the tops above about 500 metres, it's patchy and variable in firmness so sometimes it will hold then you get comedy over-the-bars moments. Had to push downhill in one or two places :???: Generally you can s...

This could just be me but ... every 650b I've ridden has just felt like a 26" wheeled bike with big/heavy tyres. Demoing a couple of bikes I could hardly tell the difference between a 26" wheeled bike and a 650b, well certainly not enough to consider getting one. Some 650b tyres are very ...

Re: Bikepacking across UK

A right of way designated as a footpath restricts its use to pedestrians only though some footpaths may be permissive bridleways. Best find a route that uses bridleways :???:

Scotland has different access laws to the rest of the UK and there is no distinction between footpaths and bridleways.
