Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?

Gotcha. Yes, that'll make a difference. Thing is, I rarely ride terrain where I need a dropper if the bike is that fully loaded.

Re: Have we discussed shelters this year!

Qu for the tarp users, (sorry Shaf, hope you don't mind?) Are tarps open enough to never get condensation, or is it dependant on how you pitch them? What about the Trailstar, if you pitch it down low because of bad weather, is condensation a problem? I've had "condensation" under an open ...

Re: Lael Wilcox AZT FKT controversy.

Ride where you want to ride. Film it if you want. But if you want to "compete" then you have to abide by the same rules as the other competitors.

In this case the film crew includes her wife. That's a further complication around the moral support issue.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?

I have first hand info that one of the ultra-ers from this very constabulary (did I get it right  - might definitely pass my citizenship test now  ) is going into specialist bikepacking gear for us picky folks. He has a dripper specific post on the make as well as some sort of bar harn...

Re: Have we discussed shelters this year!

The Lunar Solo isn't bad. Though it is way more finicky to pitch than my Elixir, practice makes perfect here. I'm 6ft and it's just ok for me as long as there is no condensation. Trouble is, the only time I don't get condensation is when I leave the door open. So on a rainy night I'm getting some w...

Re: Have we discussed shelters this year!

Rich. Not light and fast (I conceded that I'm never gonna be that) but light enough to manage without getting bogged down too much. Main thing for me is always the winters - what shelter did you take to try the HT550 (or was it Cairgnorms) last year please? 1.2kg for the Helium sounds really good a...

Lael Wilcox AZT FKT controversy.

She just can't help herself eh? https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/biking/lael-wilcox-bikepacking-fkt-controversy-arizona-trail/ If you've read the rules before the trip and are reminded of them by the organiser then it seems it's just a sense of self-importance that means you ignore th...

Re: New hardtail MTB

If I am reading the HT 550 results correctly it was 'won' by a Frenchman riding a FS Chinese carbon framed bike. They appear to do hard tail versions and a reasonably priced seat post in the correct size for me. Look on the Ali-Express website as the European one seems to have sold out of most thin...

Re: Difficulty of a ride

Height data used by mapping systems like Strava is not very granular and often incorrect. That also affects the use of Lat/Lon to determine altitude. Given stable weather conditions a GPS will tend to be more accurate than derivation from height data. However, we live in the UK where the conditions ...

Re: Difficulty of a ride

As regards the Ascent figure, have a close look at the line drawn on the Trackleaders site. You'll see that it doesn't actually follow the track very closely. Every corner cut will likely add a chunk of ascent that doesn't exist.in real life. If that's the same as the gpx file that Alan issues then ...

Hee hee. I was just thinking about this thread again yesterday, pondering where a good "hub" would be. Ideally, somewhere with a decent train link and on a line that has the new carriages. That puts it in the West at the moment where there are fewer route options (geology is a bastard). I'...

If it's just to save scratching the post though - inner tube wrap.
Yeah, it becomes an issue of leg length Vs tyre size. I lose drop anyway 😂

I now use a revelate terrapin. But add a piece of inner tube taped round the post. I lose about 70 to 75mm of drop.
Yeah. Choose any bag you want and wrap the post. Ortlieb do a 4.1L version.
