Re: Possibly daft question

I was going to mention the magic of hanger alignment tools! When I had a problem, on popping into LBS, the mechanic pulled one out and pointed out how the hanger was bent, and also another very similar tool to point out that I'd bent my brake disk, probably at the same time. And then proceeded to ad...

My Tent from Chinese Santa has arrived :D (in the office I I'm not going to open it yet :) ) need to work out exactly what length pole I need and if it's not the same as the couple I have already get on the BBB shop :D If it's the Deschutes-alike then I am this minute chatting to Stu about it. Re: Handlebar max load

I'd definitely echo the don't load the front too much sentiments, although don't have a weight for what was too much. My first time out I used the alpkit 20L bag, and it was hard work. I had sleeping bag, tent fabric(a ~2kg yellowstone 1 man cheap one, with poles strapped to frame), sleep mat, and d...

Something to think about is if the bags have BPA in them. Heat will make more of it leach out of the plastic. :(

*edit* Just got to your post where you mention the colour settings.

I'm only 4x4 atm, with some annoying omitted squares, so short ride soon, to fill in about 6-7 squares and I'll get to 10x10 :D

that's very close to suicidal. Pretty much what disaster style is. Good old Kelly Cordes and his near perfect wording. I'd not actually heard the term before, but I'm just reading, and having been stricken with anxiety for a lot of my life it both utterly horrifies and thrills me. :) Kelly Cordes o...

Frame bag creation guide recommendations?

Do people have preferred guides, or other recipes for frame bags?
I want to make one for my 29" HT, and at the moment my biggest problem is I have found so many different resources for it, and don't really know if any are better or worse.

I'm in! :D

Well, I just sent the email at least. :)

Now to verify my current kit level, and to make a frame bag I think.
The lack of it when I was doing the Pennine bridleway meant I had lots of weight on my forks.

Ohh, that sounds ace.
I would love another trip :)

Although, having read the page, maybe I'm best off doing it about the same time, rather than doing the group start, I've no idea if I could do it in the 56hours :)

Yeah, a couple of years ago in Leamington, there were a spate of people cycling on the canal being knocked off while riding and having their bikes nicked. :(

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?

I feel quite relieved that I'm able to save myself both the expense and stress of ownership, by leaving mine in the box high on a shelf :-bd I went one better, after seeing how much the annual fee was I decided not to even buy one. Yeah, I visited the stand at the Outdoor Adventure & Camping Sh...

I'm not sure about what you'd actually want for bikepacking/mountain biking, but when I was sorting out my road fixie I got bits from these guys, they have a great variety of parts: http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shop.html

Yeah, there's not much leeway, or much that's unclear with this: "In the event of a serious mechanical or medical emergency that renders a bike unrideable, a rider may hitchhike[3] by motor vehicle in ANY direction to repair the problem." (emphasis mine) but it would be not impossible to r...

Re: TDR 2017

That's the second pair of Laufs I've seen break at that point (crown race). That's pretty special, given all the other weakish looking bits on them that could break, and they go on a fairly normal looking section. I wonder if the suspension method causes different stresses on the crown race or some...

Re: Ideal weight!!

I can definitely attest at the losing weight and gaining performance thing, not bikepacking, but analogously. I'm doing a lot of kettlebell work, and training for a Strong First kettlebell instructor certification. Earlier this year I was doing Turkish get-ups with a 24kg bell, and beginning to feel...

Re: Boardman CX Team as a bikepacking bike?

vaguely exciting, great thoughts on it, thanks guys. Sounds like it could be a goer at least as an extra bike. I do have a cube 29er which I've used on trails and bikepacking & it was ok, but the MTB-ness of it was a bit frustrating for some of the bikepacking, it was kinda slow on bits that cou...

Didn't comment on LCHF whatsoever. I don't personally use it. I've actually read the study that your link discusses there btw... and there's far more nuance to it than the headline and video indicates. Edit - I'd like to see the research on LCHF athletes having heart attacks at 40 though if you hav...

Boardman CX Team as a bikepacking bike?

My local halfords is moving and having a clearance of various stock so they don't have to shift it all.(Leamington Spa in case you're local) Never being one to shy from N+1, I have been pondering getting a CX style bike for ages, and spotted a Boardman CX Team there. http://www.halfords.com/cycling/...
