Re: New saddlebag time...

Just noticed someone's selling a pair:

I use the same combo, original Wildcat Tiger & Alpkit tapered dry bag, and think it's pretty good.

Re: The post man's been ...

My rewards from Full Window's Ti Spork kickstarter arrived, after a short delay with customs fees. Ti whistle, spork, with case and firelighter rod thing http://giryan.me.uk/gallery/albums/misc/Spork.jpg I doubt I'll be taking the firelighter rod anywhere though, alone it weighs more than all of the...

Re: A nice little listen

Yes I have the book, if you'd like your own copy they're out there. You can avoid Am@zon by going to: https://www.abebooks.co.uk/book-search/title/the-gentle-art-of-tramping/author/stephen-graham/ . A bit of an investment though ;-). Sadly, they bought Abebooks in 2008, and equally sadly, another a...

Re: Norco Search

I thought Pro-peloton domestics should use them (in case of a bike change with the leader and the car can't access them) Would a quick release seat clamp not work just as well? I think they introduced them so they could literally just jump on a bike and adjust in motion. While I can imagine you cou...

Trillion/Shand merger/Partnership?

https://twitter.com/Trillioncycles/status/911562542329335808 I'm guessing it's something like that Liberty House Group (who own Trillion) are investing in/buying(?) Shand or something maybe? https://twitter.com/LibertyHouseGrp/status/911575933710209026 Liberty House are really into bikes, and metal,...

Re: Where would you go?

Not somewhere I've been, but I'd love to go... Morocco, 'proper' mountain biking if you want it, or dirt road desert trips, cheap flights, good winter weather. There loads of guide books around for 'over land' 4x4 tours which I'd imagine would be gravel style riding. Mountain Biking in Morocco is a...

Re: Getting better a bikepacking/bikepack racing?

I tried to look at the segment, sadly it was one of the bits my eTrex glitched on so strava won't show me on the segment because it's ~18% off, however I'm definitely in the 35 minute bracket :)

Re: Getting better a bikepacking/bikepack racing?

It's often just quicker to get off and walk/run, pushing the bike alongside. Sometimes that means using the thin path and the bike making it's way through the heather. Every time you stop, get off, walk a bit, get on, start pedalling, get off again etc just makes for really slow progress. Looking a...

Re: Getting better a bikepacking/bikepack racing?

Thanks for the tips! :) I was on a 29er HT, looking like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZMmawilbIP/ Sounds like there would be really good use in improving regular MTB skills, even if I couldn't find a coach that gets bikepacking, and Cannock Chase is not that far, so I'll get in touch with peop...

Getting better a bikepacking/bikepack racing?

So, something big that the the Cairngorms loop highlighted for me was that there are technical bits of riding for bikepacking that I could definitely improve. There were a lot of other things that I could do to get better at to be better at bikepacking: a general lack of packing & prep occurred ...

Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

:) I had a very short ride too :/ Started late because I'd managed to leave my helmet in the airbnb. But 10:30 saw me off, and it was pretty amazing, I've never actually been to the Cairngorms, only driven through to parts even further afield, and it's so beautiful. I had been going fairly well and ...

I basically packed at least twice as many clothes as I'll need. :)

Our ETA to AirbnB in Pitlochry is currently about 6:30 so as long as it doesn't get loads later we'll see you at the pub.
Where's the pub?

Re: Indoor Bike Rack suggestions

I didn't have a joist for mine, I bolted the top of the pole to a piece of ply that was about 1x2 foot, and stuck some rubber mat to the top of it. the top was way more secure than the bottom, which was on tiles and even though it was a rubber base there were a couple of interesting moments when I k...

Yeah, that sounds about right. I didn't buy that, but bought a slightly lighter PU Nylon I think.
Ended up buying everything from profabrics, and inc postage it came to just over £50, and probably enough to make two.

Don't they work so you push one and pull the other at the same time?
