Re: So.... Morocco....

I realise that it's not really what you're thinking of, but I did Exodus' Atlas Descent trip a few years ago and it was vaguely exciting :D https://www.exodus.co.uk/morocco-holidays/cycling/atlas-descent/mma-98305 There's definitely a lot of potential for offroad/dirty track things, so so much. But ...

Re: Weird

The thing I find most fascinating is the engineering behind it. Most if not all those bikes have been handcrafted its not the sort of stuff you can buy off the shelf (?). Have you seen the number of spokes some of those wheels are fitted with? Just think of the bag carrying possibilities of ape han...

Re: How far would you go?

I'm off to Quebec City on Monday, going to Mont Sainte Anne for some downhill on the Thursday.
So about 2900 miles to ride a few down hill.

(admittedly I'm also visiting a friend, and seeing the sights etc...)

Combined battery and Phone!

I noticed this, and it seems like the sort of thing that might be really useful for bike packing. http://www.banggood.com/XP3300-1_77-inch-5000mAh-Dustproof-Outdoor-Power-Bank-Mobile-Phone-p-968328.html Last I went i was not only really paranoid about breaking my normal phone, but also kept it turne...

Re: Tarpologists - what do I need?

I got some of these, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KNOGN6I which I use on the guys to make it simpler to move them round. atm, I basically have no idea what I'm doing and moving them happens as I realise I've put the wrong ones in the right places ;)

Re: Sleeping when bivyin

Yeah, I'm terrible at sleeping but wouldn't consider nytol if I needed to get up and do anything the next day. Last time I had it I was really fuzzy for most of the day, it wasn't that bad because I was at work ;) but I'd hate to be cycling or anything that required real thought and attention. (ther...

Re: Guided bike packing

I think it's a great idea, at some point I'm going to try to do some with my girlfriend, she doesn't cycle much, but has enthusiasm and would like to give it a go. I am confident enough with my own abilities at cycling and camping(or at least suffering, and just living through it), but wouldn't feel...

For all I'm definitely happy to ridicule the concept somewhat as well, I do like the links as I've been looking for some more shorts that I could wear regularly which work well with cycling and those vulpine ones look great ;)

I believe they're generally not posted (because obviously then anyone can do it). Good point. For anyone one with them who would like to replicate my astonishing work: take this: http://gridreferencefinder.com/?gr= paste each grid ref (with no spaces), separated by a , after it, and you're away. :)...

Re: MIPS helmet

I suspect that you would be able to mount a light generally.

Not sure about any specific helmet, but the pictures I've seen have a shell that is attached to your head, and then the main rigid shell is attached to that.
As long as the light doesn't couple the two shells then I'd've thought it'd work.

Have you tried catlike? they're odd shaped :)

I tried one on in my local auto accessory shop, and it really didn't even vaguely fit me :) Which is a shame because I thought they looked amazing :(

Re: Bearstock the party - what do you want?

I'm tempted to take a few days each side off work, and cycle from home.

I'm sure I could find somewhere to camp in Shropshire to have a rest prior to toiling on into Wales.
Looks like almost all of it would have to be on road, but almost all country lanes rather than major roads.

I'm having to postpone my TD ambitions, have bought a house with my GF, and we sat down to look at cash and I'm sad to say I really had to make the sensible decision to not do it this year :(
Still, more time for doing other trips in the UK, training, and working out details etc.. :)
