Re: New stuff from the Bear Bones barn.
Stu, when you cook with a cosy do you bring everything to the boil then let it rest or just boil the water and add the ingredients? I'm assuming you heat everything first. Yeah, for something like pasta or rice, boil the water and the food before sticking it in the cosy ... it's surprising how quic...

Re: Sew its come to this...
I'm impressed with the knowledge on sewing machines here. There's a Juki sewing machine upstairs, I can just about thread the thing and have cack-handedly managed to rescue a few pairs of bib shorts, but that's the limit. Everyone here seems very proficcient, I'll remember to ask here next time some...

Re: Bike bag on a train?
Turns out that leaflet I was thinking about hasn't been updated, but here's a handy web page.
http://www.atob.org.uk/bike-rail/uk-bik ... trictions/
I guess you'll have to look at what the actual luggage restrictions on your particular train operator are.

I've got a guide somewhere telling me which train operators hav which restrictions somewhere, I'll try and dog it out tomorrow.
Bike bags are ligit, shouldn't hav any more trouble than having a large suitcase on a train ;-)

Re: Inbred 69er
but lbs is a mass like the gram, lb is a mass or or a force, different units - same symbol. if I recall. Same as any other force I guess its the force of a 1lb mass due to gravity. 1lb(f) = 1lb(m) x G Sometimes (when being pedantic I expect) you get a little m or a little f after the unit to clarif...

Re: Inbred 69er
[pedant] Actually torque is Force x Distance, not Force / Distance. Therefore it's measured in N.m or Nm, as opposed to N/m which is a unit load [/pedant] Zippy does that mean my ft/lb should also be ft.lb? Being of the metric generation* *One that associates my height in ft and inches, but measure...

*Almost bordering on rant for a minute, sorry ... it's just that they don't half get on my tits. Like those idiots off Top Gear who say 'ooh this has got X number of torques'. Torques isn't a bloody unit you nobs, you mean this thing produces X ft/lb or X N/m of torque. [pedant] Actually torque is ...

Not a member, but have heard (may be hearsay) that they have a good selection of maps, touring routes and stuff available at reasonable prices for members. Think it's mostly road base though... dunno.

Re: So, rigid forks?
I've got a steel singlespeed with a rigid fork, a carbon hardtail race bike and a 120mm full susser. I can ride most stuff on the rigid that I can on the others, and for casual riding os actually I would say more fun to ride, forces you to pick your lines correctly and you have tp learn technique to...

Re: FS: Cotic Soda frame (poss as a rolling chassis)
Been thinking it through. Yes please :D I also happen to be in Swansea weekend of 9th-10th of Feb which may be convenient for a detour to pick it up if convenient? I'd also be interested in the USE carbon post too (but don't hang onto it if anyone else gives you an offer for it). I'll send you a PM ...

Re: FS: Cotic Soda frame (poss as a rolling chassis)
oooooh, I made the decision to replace my steel hardtail (as I;ve managed to bend it and the alu seatpost is properly stuck in it.) and was thinking about a cotic soul (and also maybe a 29er). Ti was something I've always wanted, and this might be just the ticket. Currently I would like to earmark i...

Re: Singlespeed Advice
My freehub is sometimes clunking on the singlespeed and I slipped about twice at strathpuffer at the weekend (although the wheel slipped more on the ice  ). I'm running 1/8 throughout with a chain tensioner which is pretty solid I've found. Chains tend to have tight and loose spots, and if you'...

Re: 'Bikepacking' SITS
A few years ago I promised myself that I'd never do another 24hr race ... but the thought of bikepacking one is starting to appeal. No pits, no crew, no nothing, apart from what you're carrying. If you need a kip then pull over in the woods, if you want a brew, get your stove out. Anyone else 'like...

Re: Makes you think ... Geek content.
Sounds like a law of diminishing returns end of the spectrum, I'm not quite at that end of the spectrum yet... ;) Also, one has to think about how much extra energy carrying the extra weight costs you, v.s. the extra energy used with the sometimes occasionaly faff of superlightweight kit and sometim...
