Re: Higher average speed or ride longer?
If your're riding multiday, the only way to do that is at your 'natural' pace, otherwise you'll quickly fatigue, and ultimatley it'll catchup with you at some point. There are only so many hours you can ride in a day unless you can cope with minimal sleep. So like Ian says its about maximising that ...

Re: Mosquito nets
If midges are going to be an issue then you'll be looking at a tent/tarptent. Bivi options are just miserable. Been there and i'm itching now just thinking about it. At least a tent allows you to get redressed pack up a lot of your stuff up and minimise the time they can attack you. Having said that...

That Robens one doesnt sound so good.
Thats an awful lot when your not including the weight of any poles. Also the packsize is huge. The big advantage is a weight of only 1400g

Bit of a quandry now :? Looking to reduce the weight on my back, but looking to maximise my water carrying capabilities. Anyone got one i might be able to have a look at next week at El-an back? A quick internet search isn't turning anything up though, not even on the Hydrapak site. https://www.goog...

I'd hope Alpkit and Singletrack are generous. They both seem to get plenty of milage out of bikepacking

If you're doing away with the raffle (I'm assuming its ever more difficult to blag stuff), then i'm sure you could get people to cough up more than £20.....its for charity 8-)

Re: TransPyr anyone....?
I'm looking doubtful as well
Normally i'd be all over this, but with the North America trip i dont think i'll be able to squeeze in another 2 week trip (cant really complain). Its definatly on the list, but just not for 2013

Think my forks may need a bit of TLC as the air side is looking a bit dry.
Is it easy to do a simple oil change myself? Anything to be aware of?
Rockshok revalations if that makes any difference

Do people actually get punctures that often?
Think i've only had 2 all year. Personally i'm not sure it's always worth the hassle, as you still have to carry a spare tube just in case.
I might try one day out of curiosity, but for now i'm still unsure

One of the highlights has been this forum. Many new friends, invites to cool adventures, and some other geeks to talk to about outdoor stuff :D Lots of the adventures i've had have been inspired by others, and hopefully i might have done the same. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7064/6831080910_308f42...

Not enoughHow much time off do you get per year?
Unfortunatly the ones in the NE do get a bit of abuse. Some of them are a bit too near to civalisation and easily walkable. The one at Roughside even has its own Bothy Parking area

I did indeed Ray. Drove up to Haltwistle, and then headed into Kielder forest towards Haughton Green. I wasnt sure where the footpath was to the Bothy until i came across this huge sign from the Police about looking after the Bothies. Not really discrete. It was getting dark and the footpath was ver...

Interested in this Ray, and should be a good build up to other things next year.
One thing to note is on the section between Newcastleton and Kielder, that path is closed for foresty work (you can still get through though )
