Re: Fat racks
I would have gone with a Tailfin rack if they'd been available with a 177 axle adapter and would have intended using it on all of my bikes. Unfortunately at the moment they don't do fat bike adapters though. The next solution was the PDW Bindle Rack that I still haven't had the opportunity to try ou...

Re: Clothing cockup
It's easy to forget how crap the weather can be in the UK even in the height of summer. Two years ago I had a couple of weeks off work at the end of June and decided to do a mountainbiking roadtrip for a few days in my campervan. My main aim was to ride Heartbreak Ridge at Ballater but decided to co...

Re: Any 3D printerers around?
This looks like a great solution to a problem I have as well. I use a Garmin Edge 130plus on my bikes for most of my day to day riding but I prefer to use my old Etrex 20 on multi day rides. I currently end up bodging an Etrex mount onto my stem with cable ties. Any interest in producing another one...

Re: Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?
I ran an Absolute Black oval ring for a few years (until it got replaced due to wear with the rest of my transmission). I didn't hate it but I also didn't feel it made a huge difference either. I'd buy another AB ring without hesitation (great quality and chain retention properties) but I don't real...

Re: Help me with my creak
I've only had one bike with a PF bottom bracket and it used to creak randomly from time to time irrespective of what I did to it (including replacing the bearings). I eventually got rid of the bike and have ensured that any subsequent bikes or frames have been screw in type. Probably not what you wa...

Alkpit sell these Jay: https://alpkit.com/products/clippers Cheers stu I'm more after what rip has posted :-bd I have some of the Tarpaulins Direct ones and mine are relatively bulky. They work very well but I've only used them for canoe or car camping due to the size. I notice they're called "...

Depends on the tyres though dunnit? 35-40psi for my 700x43 gravel tyres, 18-24psi for my 29er tyres (2.5/2.6) and 6-8psi for my fat bike tyres (4.0/4.3).In Reverse wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 8:35 pm Crikey, some high tyre pressures up in here
20 - 25psi for me on a 2.4" tyre. 18psi on a 3"

Re: Going tubeless...
Yeah tubeless is great until it isn't (which is a sort of stupid thing to say but is quite appropriate with tubeless I think). I see it as a bit of a challenge tbh, I spent a year riding my most recent fat bike wheels with tubes in as I couldn't get them to go up tubeless (despite having run my prev...

Re: Going tubeless...
I personally run my tyres at 35-40 psi depending on conditions (they're 43mm wide Pananracer Gravel King SKs). I carry a spare tube, and a combined mini pump/CO2 inflator and two 16g canisters. I also carry some bacon strips in case of a big puncture and a bit of chopped up milk carton to use as an ...

Re: More bothy shenanigans
I remember in pre internet days the bothys were still busy with people in the know but it was definitely a different user type if my memory serves me correctly. Maybe I've just got old and grumpy but I can't be arsed sharing with pissed up backcountry party animals anymore so I usually just cook and...

Re: Well that was a turn up!
I started to feel alternately hot and then cold late last night so I popped a couple of paracetamols and went to bed. I woke up around 3am feeling fine and have been okay since. No riding today as I feel a rest day would be a smart move (plus it's pouring down outside). Overall it wasn't too bad an...

Re: Well that was a turn up!
Got my jab at 0910 this morning, hardly felt the injection at all. My arm was a little sore afterwards so I waited til lunchtime to see if anything else happened but felt fine so have been out on my bike all afternoon. I set three Strava PBs so maybe the AstraZeneca jab is performance enhancing!

Re: Well that was a turn up!
I'm hopefully getting my first dose in the morning. I was starting to become a little concerned that I'd been missed out as most of my friends and colleagues who are in my age group have already been done. Anyway I chased it up and was given a slot at 0910 in the morning. Hopefully it'll all go smoo...

Re: OT question for the over 50's.
I think this bloody virus thing has skewed a lot of folks perspectives and limited the ability of people like us to use our usual outlets for shifting dark thoughts and negative introspection. Hopefully the light is there at the end of the tunnel now and we can all move on over the coming months and...

Re: OT question for the over 50's.
I wouldn't say that I never look back but I genuinely feel that I ponder the future more. It's my 57th birthday today and all being well will retire in three years time (or sooner if I have the opportunity). Thinking about that and how it will change my life (in both good and bad ways) occupies my t...

Re: Looking for a budget windproof...
I've had an Alpkit Arro for a few years. Good points, cheapish, decent quality, does what a windproof should do, packs very small. Bad points the zip is very fine and mine has stopped working at the bottom meaning I now have to use it like a smock (and leave it zipped up part way all the time), not ...

Re: Carrying water
I have a couple of Elite Fly bottles with flip tops but wouldn't really recommend them. The flip lid bit doesn't seal very well and dirt still gets underneath and onto the drinking nozzle bit. The flip cap is also quite fragile. I used to have some old Zefal ones with a rubber bung that pushed onto...

Re: Carrying water
Another vote for using a filter. I have an MSR Trailshot which is fine. I only carry 750ml of water with me and just fill up when I get low. I also carry a Platypus bladder with a screw on top which I use when I stop overnight. It packs down to almost nothing but can carry up to 3 litres of water wh...
