Happy to patch it up for you Phil. Shouldn't be a big job and I've probably got everything needed.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
Did I overthink everything to do with this? Yes. Did I change my mind about where to go than five times? Yes. Did I delay because I was too scared to commit? Yes. Ah, I see you've watched me every time I go out for a bivvy. (/Leave the house.) Congratulations, I'm sure it'll be easier next time, on...

Re: Liner, Quilt, or Better Bag?
I would get the better mat and see how much difference that makes - you'll probably find that's all you need. But if you do need more, of your options, I'd probably go for a quilt for the flexibility. I've tried liners and not really got on with them. Also, what do you wear to sleep in? In theory, i...

Was considering Flittingford as a bad weather plan B last month - didn't go in the end, but still thinking I should give it a go sometime, since I've never been. Will report back if I get there before you.

Well, the courier, with a brand new Exposure Joystick! See other thread for details. Good service from Exposure in the end. Courier (APC, but subcontracted to a local company) bloody useless though. They'd sent it next day Monday, and they did try to deliver it the Tuesday, but I was at work. Rearra...

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?
Indeed. Case in point, my January BAM: https://i.ibb.co/2dkh2Ld/1152548.jpg You wouldn't get a tent in there, no matter how small. Could have pitched a tent on that flat-ish bit of muirburn in the background, but it would have been much more exposed to the 30mph wind, despite only being 20 yards awa...

I've also booked the campsite but might have to sleep on the outside of the wall. BaM rulez innit Bollox, I'll need to find another Feb opportunity I was thinking of bivvying next Staveley on Friday night, partly for this reason (and partly because I need somewhere to sleep anyway). Booked the camp...

Re: Todays walk
Went for a wander round the hills today and was once again reminded of the importance of G(ing)TFO. The forecast was good and I knew I needed to get out in the hills, but riding to them on the same old roads didn't appeal and neither did any of the XC routes I could think of, so decided to drive and...

Re: What are you reading now?
Isn't Chris Townsend a long time tester/writer in TGO magazine? That's the one. Though I've never bought TGO. Rebecca Solnit Can't work out why the name is familiar - not read any of her books, but probably should. Stewart quotes from 'A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush' by Eric Newby in that book, whi...

Re: Exposure Joystuck
I think my (eventually) positive experience with Exposure is probably the exception, not the rule, these days. But I don't doubt your suspicion about "the Islamic effect" as you call it  That makes me more sad and angry than poor service does. Not to belittle it, but I suspect there a...

Re: What are you reading now?
Right now, The Works of Robert Burns , because. But I'm currently re-reading Rory Stewart's The Places In Between , having first read it probably 15 years ago, with no idea who he was or would become. Quite shocking how little I remember of it, but made it more enjoyable to re-read! Recommended. Fin...

Re: Ultralightweight saddlebag harness - dropper post compatible
Cheers. Tried to check what I used but can't find the invoice - definitely PP, think it's also 1.5mm, possibly 1.
Fortunately there's a place local to me, so I can just go in and buy bits.

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?
I use one. So probably.
I own a Lunar Solo, a 8x4' tarp, and a bivvy bag.
The bivvy bag probably gets most use, often in conjunction with the tarp. Probably more than the tent, which is usually reserved for midge-danger.

It's also much less of a problem if you get some inadvertent tyre/harness interference.

Agreed. I was just comparing notes Daveandy  Definitely glad I just bought a shiny new Strada after your update. Was following the thread with glee and didn't mean you should shut up. Re: Ultralightweight saddlebag harness - dropper post compatible
TBH I was hoping to come up with a design that worked well enough that I would be able to make a few to sell and at least make something for my efforts/but materials in sensible quantities. I thought the plastic sheet design would help that, in that once you've done the design, there's next to zero ...

Re: Ultralightweight saddlebag harness - dropper post compatible
:o well that looks familiar! And I don't just mean the Wayward Riders Louise - I started making my own harness based on the same, though with a few changes, over a year ago now and I've got several prototypes sat gathering dust ( ). If I weren't also invested, not quite so much financially as...

Re: Exposure Joystuck
Lower your pitchforks! I've just spoken to a nice chap at Exposure who saw where I was coming from, had a look at my light and agreed it didn't look like it'd had a hard life at all, and it shouldn't have failed, and thus they'd be willing to be lenient with the warranty period. So they should be se...

Re: What's your single best item you own for camping?
Are we talking lightweight bikepacking, car camping, or somewhere in between? A frisbee. Take one on every cub and scout camp for fanning the fire, sitting on wet grass, eating off, keeping headtorch/watch/phone together in the tent, keeping a book dry and many other uses. Mine is yellow and a prope...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
That's a Lifeventure thermal mug in an old bottle that's cut down. It's such a good fit in the bottle I had to drill a hole in the bottom the let the air out otherwise it wouldn't push down to the bottom. Fits in the bottle cage perfectly and much cheaper than the dedicated bike thermos. I paid und...
