Re: Acepac bar bag
I just got bought one of the Acepac bar bags from Stuart. I am using it in conjunction with a Wildcat Lion harness and Alpkit 12L dry bag. For the "top" attachments, I have tied a pair of (yellow) thin cord loops threaded through the Wildcat top clip straps and I put small (2.5mm) oval mai...

Re: Your go-to waterproof trousery pants
I hadn't used waterproof pants for many years and always scoffed at my wife for wearing them on mountain walks etc. but I took a pair of Montane Minimus Waterproof Pants (150 grams) on my HT550 ITT and was so grateful - I think I wore them for 3 days straight and they - along with my Buffalo-style j...

Re: Drive train cleaner / degreaser?
This saves time, avoids nasty chemicals and saves inadvertently degreasing bearings etc. My drivetrain doesn’t seem to die any quicker or be noticeably graunchier than anyone else’s. Me too now. - I just wash with water when I clean the bike, re-lube and then wipe off the excess with an old T-shirt...

Re: Very minimal tarp tents
I went for the Deschutes over the Gatewood Cape as I am 6'1" and wanted the slightly extra "length". I have a Lunar Solo too and use the same carbon pole from Stuart for both.
I love them both for different scenarios.

Re: What's The Furthest You've Had To Walk Back Due To A Mechanical?
5 miles down the corrieairyack with a slashed tyre sidewall (before I knew about all the dodges to fix this kind of thing). Had a few close shaves but touch wood, nothing that I've not been able to bodge. I've taken to carrying a velo solo sprocket that bolts onto a disc mount. If your freewheel se...

Re: GBDuro Starts Tomorrow 1st August 8am
I've had genuinely horrific squits after riding in Wales and only drinking tap water tbf. Suspect cow sh!t splashing onto water bottle/Camelbak nozzle was the culprit - the Triban Trail goes through a couple of spectacularly grim farmyards. I use the Elite Fly MTB bottles now with the caps which wo...

Surely they are going to need more that 14,000 Calories to complete the ride ?
According to Strava, I burned 15,000 Calories in the 25 hours riding on the YD 300 last weekend.
What happens if/when they run out of their food stock ? - Do they have to bail ?

Re: What does the word "Bikepacking" mean to you?
I tend to think bikepacking is backpacking but with a "rucksack on wheels". - That notion helps me cope with hike-a-bike sections cos I figure it's still easier pushing that load rather than having it on my back. I know that's not always true, but it seems to help in my mind !

Re: Shaky shaky alternaty
I have the R7 Shakedry Trail jacket - it cost me £210 recently and served well last weekend on the YD300. It's less light (~200g) compared to the very very light version, but I see that as a plus - the material has some stiffness to it so it doesn't flap around too much in windy rain. Also, it feels...

Mapshare didn't work with my InReach Mini on the YD300 this weekend. It looks like a Garmin issue probably due to the recent ransomware hack. - Rich and Tom's tracks look to have been affected too.

It was great to meet you Bob - Thanks for the advice! I took it easy after Buckden to try to keep the hamstring cramps at bay. Went to Askrigg Stores for a Pork Pie and then surprised and chatted to my in-laws over their garden wall (their home is 200m from the shop!). I bivied for 3 hours at the en...

Re: Voile straps + keepers
The Voile and similar straps have the useful (for me) characteristic of stretchiness. I use one around my front bags setup cinched tight to stop it all drooping and being buzzed by the front tyre on full fork compression hits.
