Re: BB200 - 4 Weeks to Go

Loaded the bike up and attempted the "Dartmoor Way" on Sunday. I live in Torbay, so it seemed a fair choice of longish route to have a go at. I needed a decent ride to get me used to the idea prior to this years BB200… Over 120miles and 13.5 hours later I got home…. It took longer than I t...

Re: Bar ends

I run bar ends on my 29" wheeled Fortitude... Riding would feel very limited without them.

Also had some Onzas in the 90's... Christmas present from my wife one year.

Re: Any kayak packers on here?

I live in Torbay and used to paddle a lot, though 90% white water on the river Dart. I belonged to Paington Canoe Club, which has a lot of keen sea paddlers. Google them, they are a very friendly bunch and would be a good place to get some pointers...

Re: ESI grips - slippery when wet?

Had mine for over a year and they have never moved on the bars. I used water to fit them originally, rather than the recommended IPA...

I always wear gloves so cannot comment on the bare hand/grip interface in wet conditions...

Slight variation on a theme:

Quoting Tolkien: "Not all those who wander are lost." "It is not the strength of the body, but the strength of the spirit." Some random thoughts: "Pedal faster, I hear banjos." (paraphrased from a t-shirt that was inspired by the film, "Deliverance." "Are...

A very honest account. Incredible scenery.

Absolutely excellent effort, and as you say, certainly no failure.

Strangely though, after watching your film, I am considering attempting the route more than I was before...

We are a strange bunch!

Re: Genesis Longitude

Having had a Fortitude Race for a year now, I have to say I think it is ace! I have used it on the BB200, There 'n' Back and WRT. 1x10 SLX and XT. Brilliant bike. The only thing I am thinking of changing is maybe trying a pair of Jones loop bars. Having said that, I see Genesis are going to be bring...

Have to admit to not really being that interested in meths stoves. Always use a small primus with gas canister... Nothing fancy.

But, I have to admit, that your cone stove has really caught my eye Stu, especially with the outer ring for control.

I think that is really smart...

Re: Deore brakes?

I have Deore on the Fortitude and have covered over 3000 miles with them. They are great brakes. I have found that Superstar organic brake pads perform better than the OEM sintered originals from Shimano. Particularly in terms of heat dissipation. When the Shimano pads get hot, they expand to the po...

Re: 9 spd ... is it dead yet?

I'm purposely going out of my way to get 9 speed stuff, even on new builds for many reasons. you don't appear to be able to get 10 speed mtb rear mechs that aren't shadow (in shimano flavour), and shadow mech pivots are made of actual cheese for starters :| a bit like SRAM GXP bottom brackets then...

Re: 9 spd ... is it dead yet?

I have an 3x8 speed Felt and a 1x10 Speed Genesis... The 8 speed bits are a fraction of the cost of the 10 speed... Plus they seem to last longer (that is a subjective judgement, probably based on imagination). I would be tempted to go for the cheaper option, especially if the bike is part of a flee...

Thought it was about time I got some purpose made BP luggage stuff. Has to be easier than strapping stuff everywhere with straps and guesswork.

I got a return flight with bag on IcelandAir to just shy of £280.00. Seriously contemplating a trip this Summer now. Might try the F26 up from Gulfoss to Bloundos. Roughly 160km of cinder road across the interior with fewer river crossings than others. Plus some rather pleasing hot pools to ease the...

Most routes across the interior do not open until the end of June. 4x4 road names are always prefixed with an F. You would be limited to staying on the main, tarmacced roads if you go before then. The site to check on road conditions is: http://www.vegagerdin.is/english/road-conditions-and-weather/ ...

The nearest camp site is just a 5 minute ride away from Keflavik airport http://alex.is/home/ You are about 25km from Reykjavik along Route 41. For true Icelandic interior excitement, I would head out of Reykjavik towards Pingvellir (Oldest Parliament in the world) then on to Geysir and Gulfoss. Fro...
