Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

A wholly knackered nth-hand tandem. But it wasn't the bike itself, it was the people and places associated with it.

Re: A different sort of bikepacking challenge

If you don't mind a detour via Newcastle then I can recommend the NCN 72 from Carlisle to Newcastle, and the NCN 1 from Newcastle to Holy Island. The former is flat at the start and end, but with a big climb at Once Brewed. The latter is pretty much flat, not once getting over 300'. Lots of accommod...

Re: Safe Route To The Lakes From Formby

It's all rideable. Gets a bit wiggly in the middle. Not the fastest A-B but is a lovely green corridor away from major roads. If you're on Komoot you should see it here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/84737971?ref=wtd. If not, let me know and I'll PM a GPX.

Re: Safe Route To The Lakes From Formby

You can follow the canal north from Preston to Carnforth, then one of a couple of NCN routes either side of Arnside to Levens, then along quiet back roads towards Windermere or Kendal. I can send a gpx if needed.

If you're near Langdale you could try the National Trust campsite for showers, and the Sticklebarn (Langdale) or the Brittania Inn (Elterwater) for food.

You'll be wanting Applecross TIC: 57.4334671, -5.8135760

(Found using a combination of http://dracos.co.uk/made/nearest-postbox, Google Steet View, and OpenStreetMap.)

Re: Which .GPX Site Do You Use?

In my experience, Komoot *does* ask if you want to "Stick to original route" or "Match route to known ways" when you import a GPX. At least, it does so on the web site.

Maybe try Mountaineering Designs, http://www.mountaineering-designs.co.uk ... rod_REPAIR.

I can't speak to their repairs but their cleaning service is excellent.

Re: Planning A Route & Finding A Gate...

That road is normally very quiet. A lot of land thereabouts is owned by the Graythwaite Estate; pink "private" signs everywhere. If you're worried, you could always stop 1km to the south, then follow the footpath up towards High Dam, or find somewhere off a bridleway in Grizedale Forest; b...

Re: GoPro adapter for Garmin Out-Front

Yes. The Out-Front has an adjustable adapter which can be rotated for different Garmin GPS units; it's held in place with a couple of short bolts. Replace these with those supplied by VeloChampion and you have an Out-Front which functions exactly as before but with an additional GoPro mount undernea...

Ordered yesterday, arrived today. A lovely piece of cnc'd alloy. It's the small things sellers do that that impress me; the mounting bolts come with thread-lock.

GoPro adapter for Garmin Out-Front

Does anyone know of something that adds a GoPro mount to the underside of a Garmin Out-Front?

I know I could get a new K-Edge dual-purpose mount or similar, but I'd much prefer to re-use what I've already got.

Re: Route planning assistance; Southport to Whitehaven

Some more suggestions. Take the quiet roads of NCN 62 from Southport to Preston, then either NCN 6 or the canal to Carnforth (the former is straightforward with some gentle rollings hills on quiet roads, the latter will be alive in spring - swans, geese, ducks, herons - but it's not a fast route), N...

I needed to call out our MRT last weekend; first time in over forty years in the hills. Obvs, they did a sterling job and the casualty was safely returned. Chatting with them later, this was said: "Spot Trackers are a mixed picture. The signal will be received in the UK and eventually it will g...
