Re: Happy 'International Beaver Day'
Once fish were introduced the beavers came by themselves and now there's a family. Aren't beavers vegetarian? Have you got otters? Yes, I believe so. The end of renaturation was marked by putting fish in. No more digging etc. Once some kind of ecosystem level was established, the beaver came (natur...

Re: Happy 'International Beaver Day'
There's a industry canal behind our house (more like a small stream) which went through a renaturation project. Once fish were introduced the beavers came by themselves and now there's a family. Quite amazing what they do. If you ever hear a clapping sound near the water, take a good look - it may w...

Re: packable fleece?
suspect sewing pandas Reg, please tell me you didn't... (I'm not at all tearing any quotes out of context.) This talk about functional clothing reminded me of my wool jumpers, especially the one made of lettlopi (an Icelandic wool), which are, for specific weather, incredibly functional. Best is, m...

Re: packable fleece?
A layer should be removable if the conditions don't need it. My cheapo base and fleece(s) are warm and I add a U/L rain top if it rains or is very windy. Just the way I use the Core stuff. Exactly the same way. The Core stuff is just warmer for the weight and volume. very windy In real world, how m...

Re: packable fleece?
I'm not quite sure of the point Very obvious; modular insulation. You might have heard on the layering principle  The Core stuff in size L (tight fit for me) is more like 135 g. I've a tee made of Core+ stuff, weighs 90 g and is bloody amazing. Like putting on a thin puffy. Half the weight an...

Re: packable fleece?
OMM Core stuff packs down really well and is functional as midlayer, not so much as outer layer like a more regular grid type, powerstretch fleece, Polartec Windpro etc. My Core Hoodies are half the weight and volume of classic fleeces offering comparable warmth. Tears easier than regular Polartec s...

Re: HT550 - 2024
Ive done bugger all in the way of long training rides - the most ive done/ doing is about 3hrs on a sunday, but im managing to get 1-1.5hours daily, allbeit on the turbo using Trainer Road as a guide. My first HT (inaugural with ~430 miles) was done after about 1000 km of mostly 2 - 3 hrs rides, on...

Nice job
Oh yes. A rotary cutter makes a huge difference. I use it with a tailor ruler (about 15 x 60 cm) and cutting mat (60 x 60 cm or so).thenorthwind wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 4:59 pm Looks great!
I've not got a rotary cutter, but may well try one - the cutting out bit takes a lot more time than you think.

Re: Cleaning tyre sealant off a frame
Usually I get mine (OKO HighFibre, probably same as Milk It stuff) off the carbon frames quite easily with isopropyl alcohol and/or WD40 and a cloth. I have some sealant spots on my bead blasted titanium fatbike frame I can't get off with above solutions and a cloth. Didn't clean it when it happened...

I'm sure there's some info in your answers Google or Chatbots don't know about.
Well now it kind of should know since it's on here, but that wasn't my intention.

Re: New (carbon?) wheels
I'm looking to upgrade my monstergravel bike and I'm looking at wheels first. I'm a clumsy 90kg(14+stones) rider and use my bike on a bit of everything from tarmac to singletrack, including some gnarly Peak District trails. Tyre widths I use go from 45mm to 2.3". I have 2 cheap 29" alloy ...

I had so much wear in the chain of an all new set-up in under 150 miles that the chain was so slack I had a dropped chain sprinting for a traffic light, less than ideal in the morning traffic :o In my case the issues came after about 500 km. On my ssp bikes I run RaceFace/Easton and Absolute Black ...

Re: Narrow-wide chainrings
Hot tip for ssp mtb riders: If you use a n/w ring, I suggest to use a 11 spd chain and a n/w cog. I'm writing this 'cause I had issues with dropping chains and surprisingly lots of wear running n/w rings, wide ssp cogs (in my case Surly) and any 8 or 9 spd chain I could find (whichever would work wi...

As stated fuji has the retro user interface of an old film camera. Fuji is not full frame, just in case the FF “look” matters to you. What Fuji? Are you meaning the compacts? Not long ago I used a GFX 50S II. Biggest digital sensor I ever took photos with. Basically the first ever camera that's med...

Long time (11 or 12 yrs) Oly MFT user here. Re: Which chain lube?
After nearly 30 years with different lubes, starting off as a teenager with the "universal chain lube" from the hardware shop, I went full circle and have been using it again for the last couple of years. I don't find the bike specific stuff to be any better, just much more expensive. Wors...
