Nice one Phil.
I considered it briefly. This format is much more appealing but I just don't get enough annual leave. Looks like a great trip!

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
a looser interpretation of the rules is permitted. I'm blowing it out of the water with a complete disregard to the 'paid accomodation' rule. The 5 quid campsite on Jennride was probably the trickiest camp I've had to date so it's included in my tally, even if it's excluded from the bureaucratic on...

Good work Bob! And nice to chat again briefly.
Curious how you managed with all the soaked gear on the second day. Did you just put it all back on wet, or did you have spare, dry clothes to ride in?

Winter Jennride. I'm claiming this as Februarys BaM, despite using the campsite facilities - I'll take an * for recieving outside support if that's what it takes  Couldn't have been any wetter on that first day. The riding was great and heading into Langdale, my thoughts were on a bowl of chips...

It certainly looks set to be a wet Saturday night! And most likely a couple of wet days. Not really how I envisioned a 'Winter Jennride', but looking forward to it non-the-less.

For peace of mind, I never choose wheels with less than 32 spokes. Maybe it's overkill, but for the extra few grams it seems like good insurance

Re: Todays walk
Good to see you Bob!
It looked a fairly bleak patch of land you were heading across, but a lovely day for it.
Unfortunately the cafe we were heading to in Slaidburn had shut down, but a coffee and sandwich from the nearby post office was a reasonable substitute.

I've never managed to find anything comfortable for over about 4 hours. After that its just varying degrees of tolerance and pain management.

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?
I usually avoid the need to wriggle out of waterproofs by aiming for good weather. That way I also avoid all the issues of tarps and tents by carrying neither. It often works well, but not always

Re: Have tarps lost their popularity?
Although I enjoy the 'Joes Shop' shaped tarp, I always add a bivvy bag and usually a tyvek ground sheet. I figured a Lunar Solo may be a a simpler option but I've yet to try it. Most of the time I'll just use a bivvy bag and if its raining, keep riding until I find a doorway or something. I doubt th...

Re: What's your single best item you own for camping?
Some interesting replies here. My camping is usually extremely basic. Literally stopping to sleep, and perhaps boiling some water for rehydrating something. I'd rarely leave my Neo Air Xlite at home and its probably the single item which has had the biggest impact on how well I sleep, so maybe that'...

In  January 24. 1/12 Road bike loop from Hebden Bridge to Halifax, via a few different counties.. A very frosty 5am start over Cock Hill before the gritters were out, sketchy decent to Keighley and sketchy riding/sliding along quiet lanes, through the delightfully named Wigglesworth and Giggl...
