Re: Are we falling out of love with 'racing'?

Fully agree with the sleep deprivation issue in fact I've referred to the events, particularly road based, as Insomniac Racing. I think you get into a diminishing returns situation, if you can function on 20 mins curled up fully clothed in a hedge you need far less stuff than if, like me, you need a...

It's more a case of different fretting, atm I'm concerned that the files will be in a form that my non existant IT skills will struggle to get onto my Garmin, I've spent so much time on wikiloc where it's dead easy.

Any thoughts on when the route will be published? Can't believe it's 4 weeks to go and I'm seriously under fretted

And the French Divide which starts soon, the CAT700 which passed unnoticed on here and the multiplicity of Italian events (excl TNR). Maybe the number of events is growing faster than those interested in doing them, a bit like Trailquests in the early 2,000's where it was possible to do an event eve...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Annoyingly it was the only close pass I experienced in 6 hours of riding on fairly narrow mountain roads, suppose I should have expected it from a pimped white T5 with orange body kit and massive alloys but seeing the matching road bike on the carrier was a bit of a shock, seems getting behind the w...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Sorry for being a day late but my tale relates to yesterday. Just returned from a few days at the TdF which was a good excuse for doing some riding in the Pyrenees. Based ourselves near St Lary Soulan which meant we watched the "sprint" stage on Wednesday at the 2,200m summit, nice to see ...

Re: Graded topographic mapping online

Wikiloc works well in foreign climes, but you already knew that. There's an option with drop down list which gives a variety of mapping including topodraphic, OS type here in Cataluna, or google earth if you want to see street level photos. Highly recommended, just a pity people don't tend to use it...

Ian, it's the Ortlieb accessory bar bag, I've got one which I picked up at the CAT700, it's a nice bit of kit. Works well on it's own or as a quick release bag on their bar roll. I'm intrigued by the umbrella mount though, hope it's not the hot setup for TNR :???:

No I'm not particularly murdery :-bd I've planned the first 3 days now. We ride straight from the airport 50km to the refugio at 800m up in the Montanyes de Prades. Day 2 takes us north east to the Monestery of Montserrat, 130km with 2,500m of climbing. Day 3 gets hillier and finishes 1,000m up in t...

Just struck me with this stove discussion, I wasn't planning to take any cooking kit for 2 reasons, firstly I thought I'd read somewhere on here that they were prohibited due to the fire risk and secondly on previous trips I've rarely used it and the weight of stove, meths and food is one of those &...

If you can get hold of them in Decathlon Spain, I'll bring as many as you want. Send me a pic of the connection type you need and I'll have a look next time I'm in there, same goes for the meths users. Not bothered about the sloppy kisses though.

Not cold at all, nighttime temps have been in the early 20's for the last few weeks. It'd be sensible to bring a bivvy bag with mozzie net as this is the main issue at the moment. I'll pm you my email so we can discuss the details.

    Grøavelling in Cataluña

Short notice I know but I'm doing a trip from Reus (Tarragona) to Girona, starting Sat 4th of Aug and finishing Wed 8th. Around 120km per day with plenty of climbing up to a max of 1,700m. Mainly gravel and quiet lanes, no rocky steep stuff, aiming to replicate the TNR type of thing. Decent level of...

Hi Paul, rings are perfect. I've been putting in some hilly miles recently with most of my kit on the bike and have not yet found anything unridable on the 30/36 bottom gear. If there's traction I can ride 25+% ,whether that will be the case after 200km is likely to be unrelated to the bike  T...

Re cardboard box, I'd be very confident of getting a box, Girona has several bike shops and has a big cycling community. It is the venue of the Sea Otter Europe event, I did a 350km gravel race there last year and there's a huge cycle infrastructure. It's also a weekday which helps.
