Re: Shall we talk about balaclavas aswell, shall we!

I have a seal skin one that has a removable (drop down ) face mask and Ties at the side Allows you to vent as you see fit Only used when sub sub zero and it was damp in the inside ( head not where I breathe) on my return but not noticed on the ride Also got a fleece one but wets out and freezes esp ...

Re: Layering for cold weather riding

As they said layering and adaptability but the perfect set up cannot be achieved. You will be cold at some points as it's winter and freezing cold out there. If you are comfortable most of the time then this is acceptable.me I don't do more than 6 hours in winter ( sub zero ish) Cold feet is my main...

Re: Specialized and Adventure?

If i was one i would be gutted to lose the money that enabled me to cycle but not really sure what they bring to the table tbh Ambassador relationships are important for brand identity; they allow brands to stay connected, relevant, and engaged in cycling communities. Do they really ? I am not sure ...

Re: Spikey ice tyres

Nah I remembered i had some ice spikers for the MTB in the loft and got them out Many more spikes than those above but my feedback is 1. Great in compacted ice 2. Terrible in snow - they have to be at 30 psi and the road ones even more 3.Very draggy - the flat is like a steepish uphill- I had to wal...

Happy to confirm I was still wrong when i said it - even though I had built a Hope wheel the day before so really had no excuse

I can also confirm its still a triangle.

Indeed the social media definition of solo - you ride whilst others follow you recording it and quite possibly interviewing you during the ride.

Re: Spikey ice tyres

EDIT: the perfect reply there as i was typing, Will try to get them tubeless and use as and when required , on spare rims, as its 13 mile each way. you might find the use:annoyance ratio preferable. I might but then again they might just sit in the shed unused hence asking Given the price and the fe...

Re: Help - chainring bolts

I also looked a while back and found none, except the alloy ones you cannot tighten enough.

Also never needed to do a trail side repair on a chainring ( though did once lose one bolt on a ride and now carry a spare I have yet to use.)

Spikey ice tyres

Well now it's cold and I commute on ungritted country back roads ( and declined today as everything is icey) Are these really worth it and can you use them when it's just surface ice rather than snow Wiggle have them at £15 ish but not sure they will work or get that much use https://www.wiggle.co.u...

Re: 2022 Plans (to go with the 2021 Reflections thread)

Not to ruin the year with a crash* that left me missing the entire summer pretty much and still not back to full fitness ... I had to ride a child's bike and could only do 15 ish miles once a week if I was lucky Please just let me be fit to ride in 2022 * Very bad luck not even my fault./ Unavoidab...

Re: Nighttime riding, fear and loathing.

No zombies tonight - in fact no anything but me as it was freezing.

Did make me think how scary this would be if you did not do it all the time...its not normal to do this at night until it is so my advice remains just do it as the only way to get over your fear

Re: Nighttime riding, fear and loathing.

Just because it's dark, doesn't mean it's late Indeed no one would refuse to ride at 6 pm in summer because its too late As for night riding done it for so long I forget what its like to have the fear but 100% agree with doing familiar rides and routes at first ...just got a new commute and only do...

Re: Surly vs Fox Fork

If the adapter went on the non disc side and it was re-dished, that would put the rim closer to the non disc side than before/intended and it'd have less dish than a std front disc wheel, I think? Your theory is correct, and i was wrong and just measuring one [ no excuses i built it yesterday so sh...

Re: Surly vs Fox Fork

My fox forks have a method of adapting where the wheel sits ( to accommodate slight variations do those ?( Unlikely to make 10mm if difference ) Secondly the hope solution is daft( and weakens wheel due to excess of unequal triangle ) . Centre it and get some standard boost adapters to add 15 mm eit...

Depend on if its road or off road but you would be changing chain and indexing a few times in 10k miles ; rings and cassette would possibly/probably survive

Not me but a mate[14 st @ 6ft4] did and he still gets pinch flats when he reduced the pressure- same pressure as before it works as before. Might be worth considering if you pinch flat a lot ?

Its test sample of 1 though
