Re: Anyone ride track?

I did a taster in London. Really enjoyed it and I can see how it could be addictive but I’d need a track on my doorstep to do it regularly.

Re: food weight (calories per 100g nerdiness)

Interesting but, for me, in the UK, on a bike, and as someone who views eating as pleasure not just fuelling up, this is a level of nerdiness too far. It’s useful to have some basic knowledge about calorie density but I’d only go to these lengths if I had to carry food for a long trip without any ch...

Re: Geoff Bars vs Jones H

I’ve got some of the Alpkit Fu Manchu bars, which are, I think, from the same catalogue as the Geoffs. I use the Wildcat bag with them and it fits fine. Not huge capacity but it will sit happily above my bar harness and bag.

I’m also using Finish Line dry for dry conditions. Seems good, little mess, lasts OK, but it’s so thin that it’s very hard to apply sparingly, so a bottle doesn’t last that long.

Lolz, I thrive on insensitivity me. 🤪

The arm’s fine - thanks for asking. Just a small puncture wound and a bruise.

It was an unusually frustrating bivy hunt.

Headed out last night without a plan and just followed my nose to a newish singletrack loop that heads down into a lovely little wooded valley and back out. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/SaVm-Xrvp0HeY00FJ3N-3lI5Pyq-2f7JjGCnkdtZQi4RtdATtf7h-NzL5R_MLOd6B8pe8Ua-lP_dLxyBGSK0hpcJ2_HlWl04eS_IaG2aKfPer...

Re: Plus or Fat

I ride my fatbike as a trail bike - most often when the trails are filthy and I don’t want to wear out the full sus. It’s the only other bike I have with suspension. I never ride beaches and although there’s a teeny bit of sand round this way and it snows every once in a while, I don’t have a fatbik...

Re: Plus or Fat

If you want something that feels fat get a fat bike. They’re surprisingly versatile and if you’re after a contrast to a normal bike then that’s what you need. If you’re after something practical for getting the miles in then 29+ is a marginally more sensible option IMHO. I have both, love both and r...

Re: Seat Packs - What's Everyone Using These Days?

I have a variety but almost always end up using the Wildcat with an Alpkit tapered dry bag. I did buy a Podsacs one recently for trips where I want to take a bigger load. My brother used one on our recent KAW trip and I was impressed how stable it was. Not super light but seems OK quality and was on...

Food and water was a slight issue for us after Larkhill. We were banking on getting supplies in Avebury but everything useful was shut. There’s a water tap or two on the Ridgeway if you keep your eyes peeled but nothing else on route till you get to Goring. I found the route through Reading frustrat...

Re: Undercarriage Multi-Day Hygiene

Overheating is where problems seem to start for me. I rarely have issues in cold weather but when it heats up I get what I assume are inflamed pores or sweat glands that provide a good focus for chafing. That said, I’ve never had a serious problem, even on multi-day trips. My regime is nothing more ...

Re: The post man's been ...

A bumper crop yesterday:

- a Kask Mojito from Tredz (I’ve been looking out for a medium-sized bargain for ages).

- a 27.2 Brand-X dropper for the Stooge. This will hopefully play nicely with a Rockgeist Gondola I’ve just ordered from the States.

- some Uberbike disc pads.
