Re: HT550 Grand Depart - May 2022

Alex, best advice is not to quit. Your body might tell your head that its tired, and your head might have some dark moments, but keep pedalling and moving forwards. And don't get xaught up in the excitement at the start. You're fit and capable, but this is a ride that is governed by your head not yo...

Re: Tour Divide / GDMBR ?

I'm riding the TD, flying out on the 6th June, starting on the 10th. Looks like the Gila is completely closed, with reroutes being published very soon. Plus 2 other closures either happened or imminent. Us late snow at the northern end on some passes. There's around 6 UK people riding who I am aware...

Re: Bivvy a month 2022

I rode to Ludlow and back with a bivvy stop on the way in some woods outside Kinlet. 6 jars of chilli jam from the Ludlow food centre and the OH is quite happy.... Nice little bivvy spot in a grassy clearing, only disturbed by barking deer and some rustling in the undergrowth at 4am. The return trip...

Re: Tour of the Cotswolds.

I did on a rigid mtb, starting up by Mickleton, and the bike was fine. There's some tough climbs near Bath, and lots of gravel and road, but nothing too technical. I'd worry less about the bike and more about the legs.....

Re: Heart rate watch ??

I have a garmin vivoactive that does steps, heart rate and stuff. Probably 100 times more stuff than I use. Picked it up for £125 - wouldn't pay the full 250 for it though

What day/time is the depart and who from here is on there? Looking forward to a bit of dot watching. Sorry if someone's already answered  Start is 28th May, normally at 9.00am (but may be earlier ??) People from here - only Alex Berry I think, although lots of familiar names on the startlist...

Re: TwentyFour12 2022 - Anyone In?

It's now cancelled anyway (unfortunately). Too much up front cost and insufficient up front entries mean it's too financially risky.

A real shame, as this seems to be the way of things recently.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

I'm hoping it is ideal TD prep Dave, as I just rode 380 miles on it (and to and from home). Really enjoyed it, just watch the headwind across the ridge on Salisbury plain. Some cracking scenery and very popular. Have a good ride fella I started and finished at Salisbury. Solid headwind for much of ...

Re: Lakeland 200

Nice one Bob. It is a hard route that's for sure, and great meeting Alan G. The wind was hard on the Ridgeway down South, so in the Lakes it must have been brutal. But you finished which is the main thing (safely!)
Well done chap

Can you provide a summary? What's wrong with Bowman cycles? (How does a bike become a deathtrap unless it's made of papier-mache?)

A field just outside Reading got me my April bivvy, as part of King Alfred's Way. Or another grassy bit just off Salisbury Plain for my 2nd bivvy this month. That's 4/4 so far.

Was thinking similar - maybe they are for ultra short wheelbase bikes......
