Which side of the track are you?

One of the many ponderings whilst riding my bike was that I always seem to gravitate to riding on the right hand side of a track. I'm not sure if that makes me a closet left hander, a non Brit, or whether my brain is just wired that way.... Have you ever noticed which side of the tracks you ride, an...

Re: My BB200 Black Badge (training) Thread.

Can I ask a question? The thing that causes the most faffage for me is fiddling about with my garmin screen, trying to see the route, when the path isn't obvious. How do you deal with the oft mentioned tussocky bog sections? Do you have the screen zoomed out a bit and just head in roughly the right...

Re: What's your current dream bike?

I think that'll work Stu, just wasn't too impressed with the 2k paint I used on a steel frame I painted - not at all durable, but I think I put it on too thickly.

I'll try thinner coats....

Re: What's your current dream bike?

I'm thinking very hard about revamping my Tour Divide bike. Its a 2014 Planet X Dirty Harry - light carbon hardtail in matt Black. Great bike but not inspiring to look at. Thinking of a complete rub down and repaint in a purple metal flake. It won't be hard-wearing, and probably not great for frameb...

Re: Fishguard to Fishmore (Rd, Ludlow)

I'm surprised you found the Preseli's hike a bike - the Gold Road across the tops is a cracking track (in the dry). One of my favourite rides when I'm in Pembrokeshire. It would have been a detour, but Llys y Fran is a nice reservoir with cafe and a bike trail all the way round - there are some good...

Yep, Phil Jones (mates with Phil G off here) and Anthony Ball finished earlier today. Both riding for charities and themselves. Cracking rides from both!! ChrisE off here (and Dales Divide organiser) should finish today/tomorrow also. He's currently having a bad time due to rain, mud, thunderstorms,...

Re: My BB200 Black Badge (training) Thread.

Ride lots Shaf, but build the base fitness rather than try and crack out a 200km training ride. So aim to ride 5 days per week, and 20km each day. Then build that up and add a 50-70km ride once or twice per week. And build that up.... Try to aim for at least 10 hours per week. Plus also build in som...

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.

A few of us were interviewed in Banff about the impact of climate change on the TD - the journo (Sabra?) was clearly steering an angle for this story.
Maybe our British answers were too reserved to be worthy of any inclusion, and the fact we'd all just flown over kind of negates any argument....

Re: YD200/300 2022

The YD200/300 is an odd one I think - the entry cost is really low (£15-20) so people are happy to enter and not turn up as they haven't lost much. The fuel to get there easily costs more than the entry fee. The start venue is odd also (it's Stu's workshop) - so it feels very very low key - which me...

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.

This DH has been great. Many many miles across difficult terrain. I think I had one of the last, and I do wonder whether I had a copy rather than an actual DH. I did reinforce the chainsaw after a chainsuck incident, but I think this was overkill. Plus it is wrapped in helitape but I don't think thi...

Re: Popping pill - TD related (or not)

I read this thread with interest as I've been used as an example within it. I have to say I'm not sure I have a position on the use of pills to enhance performance. People who do that are only kidding themselves that they can mix it up with the others who don't. I openly admit to using coffee and Pr...

Re: Substitute for chamois creme

For the TD I used Happy Bottom bum butter during the day, then removed shorts, antibacterial wipes and sudocrem overnight. My theory was a clean bum is number 1 priority, and nappy cream is good at repairing damage, whereas the bum butter has preventative properties. It worked for me. I have pressur...

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.

Thanks for the support everyone- this one was a bit of an epic. Last night Ana, Colin and I were sat in Denny's in Silver City eating and looking at the weather, which looked good, and we decided to go for it. I'd already done 150 miles to Silver City, so another 124 to Antelope Wells seemed optimis...
