Re: First time bikepacking.

Hi Ian. Doing the WoR on a Blast. Isntit better taking the gravel bike especially since there's hardly any offroading from what I recall. I did the western half on 25mm tires and they were adequate

Welcome to the world of BPing btw and like me, Imsure you'll learn and appreciate loads...

Re: Todays ride

NB. If anyone can't see the images will you report me. As I've tried watering em down by resizing, but it seems more complex than I can manage. Especially since they remain at about 5MB sometimes even after the resizing in the gallery  Sorry!

Re: Todays ride

So, I'd I was gonna do at least 2 weekly rides to try and be in shape to have the confidence to press the trigger when Bearbones200 tickets come round. Sadly this week I was stuck between money and riding. You see, work had given us an incentive to earn a bonus if we picked up our minimal targets in...

Good to hear that Cyclepeasant. Hope I can keep mine safe for 5 years and beyond  The wife has already told me off pre-emptively to make sure I don't leave em with the 8 year old without direct supervision.

Wtd: mtb gloves

Anyone got anything that they no longer use. Something with a bit of heritage if possible and I don't mind if they're gonna be on the last legs soon. Mine are almost done.

Price: as little as poss!

Re: Riding then walking

I've often thought about this and how them over the grand canyon do it. Putting the bike on the back. But am impressed and fascinated at how they manage the GC like this...

Keen to hear more stories/thoughts. Thanks Ben.

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?

Thanks for all your help in my decision of what to go for. I ended up going for these beauties which were on a 'open/damaged box' promotion at about £160. 30 years warranty and reviewed well by Best Bins Reviews. https://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000KTZALK/ref=cm_cr_getr_mb_paging_btm_3?ie=U...

....with a new vacuum cleaner. Rock and Roll..... I love vacuum cleaners. Is it a Miele (my wife hates em... unappreciating silly cow - one day I'll get her, not 'us' cos I'll not use that expensive rubbish) a Dyson then she can appreciate my Miele... Re: Stretch

Well done Phil.. I too tracked down my sciatica to lack of stretching. Mainly (well it came to a head with) sitting for a 4 hour commute (then back) to work a few times when my hand/brain was forced. 15 years of lack of stretching and 200 mile rides in between. Then came the IT syndrome and a year l...

so I will be fine but I just wanted to make sure that the other guy im cycling with on his gravel bike wont be swearing at me all the way around. If you and him don't swear then you're not on a BB200 and need to check your gps. Most people do swear but you don't wanna be the target of the poor lang...

Re: Bear Bones In April

I'd not do any of the (one's I've attempted so far, which is 3) BB200 routes on a gravel bike. But have seen it done with Wotsits and a few more. They seemed to enjoy it too :o I actually even saw em both zoom down the World Cup DH course as I struggled with my 3 inch tires worried it was too steep ...

(Wonder if the sales person heard back-packing rather than bike-packing and hence, suggested a heavier but better pair?) The smaller pair weigh 260g compared to 665g of the bigger pair Good observations there Simon. Yes, I don't think he actually got that them few cm difference would significant fo...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?

Just an update on this. Since Bens post about the Kowa and me doing some reading around, seems that's what I'm settled on. Today whilst I've been browsing for some Kowa at my (limited) budget I've popped over to Clifton cameras. Been looking at these https://www.birders-store.co.uk/kowa-sv-ii-8x25-c...

Re: Todays ride

Bit of a character building ride today. Locally it wasn't too cold but the in laws live more north-west which is where its higher and colder. Inspired by Phil the fat biker and many others who regularly get out in the snow, I'd hoped if I found enough elevation then I'll find lots of snow too. Almos...

The CVMBC (Colne Valley mtb Challenge) which riases money for scouts and their local cricket club (Golcar) used to have people trying to ride the route other than event day. Jonny (the organiser, excellent organising btw and mashalling second to none across the entire route) eventually got fed up wi...

Right then... This is a test and please provide feedback. Previously after a year or 2 of not posting pictures cos it seemed so complex I eventually got the hang of it. I'd host my pic in Imgur. Grab the url and bring it here. Then pop it between the two picture icons up above in the margin, and voi...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?

Shaf, if you're going to use the bins with your kids then not all will be suitable I actually bought a pair specifically to use with my kids(Kowa YF 6x30), as they fold small enough for a child's inter pupil distance. They were actually designed with kids in mind, although I rate them for normal us...

Re: Anyone take binoculars on their trips?

Successful bird watching tends to require sitting and waiting, rather than trying to get the binoculars out after seeing something. What about sitting and watching with the stove on and maybe a brewed coffee at hand... I usually end up pulling iut the phone just after spotting em and then they're g...
