What base layer?
Please excuse the banality. Discussions on my recent bikepacking trip turned to (stinking) baselayers and the fact that both my regular longsleeve ones are probably 20 years old... and could probably do with replacing... What do people recommend. I'm a bit of a bloater so skin tight sub standa...

Re: Fatfighters 2019 Weigh-in Thread
I've not been on this thread for a couple of months as, frankly, I've been avoiding it... My work has been stressful (my boss was off and I was 'acting up') and my mental health hasn't been the best. My weight has been fluctuating but not breached the 110kg 'barrier' again so all is not lost. Howeve...

Re: Bivvy a month 2019
My first actual post (Scotroutes documented January's bivvy at Culben). As I've been frequenting Glen Feshie a lot this month I thought I'd better get Februaries bivvy ticked while the weather was playing ball so Saturday saw me back. Car park at Achlean was rammed for 4.30pm on a saturday (until I ...

The LE (the version I have) was heavier (800-odd g iirc).
The LE has heavier ‘fly’ and ground sheet. One of the reasons I bought it was I figured it would be more durable than the green one...
Definitely packs bigger than green (as compared to scotroutes one).

Re: Grey or green tent?
I’ve a gray one (didn’t want to be ‘twins’ with scotroutes while out on a bivvy  ). Happy with mine. Not too obtrusive as stated. One of the reasons I got the Lunar Solo is that you can roll the flap(s) back and sleep ‘under the stars’ well almost. You only really have to close them if it’s rai...

I have no problems with brant as a designer. We may not agree on everything but he is helpful, knowledgeable and interested in what his customers are up to Also, he was instrumental in helping Cy at Cotic along the way to his first 100 frames and therefore up and running. My mountain biking the las...

Could be wrong but do I remember there being a problem with the tapered ones delaminating? Apologies if wrong about this but think I would go with the regular shape. And my reasoning has been proved correctMetalheart and I were just discussing this at the weekend too.
Glad to hear Wildcat still going strong (just ordered another ocelot as the straps were cut for a medium mk1 solaris and not a large Solarismax/Sherpa ). Thanks for heads up Stu.

Re: Gear recommendations and Is a 3x3 tarp too big for solo
I started off with a 3x3 alpkit number but picked up a Rab siltarp1 for £24 in a sale almost 2 years ago and not bothered with the alpkit since. The larger tarp can be rigged up more like a tent but to me this removes the ‘fun’ of a tarp (being exposed to the night sky) and I now pitch the smaller t...

Re: All round 29er tyres
All my tyres are round... I’ve used Maxxis Ardents (2.25”) as an all round tyre but what you gain in rolling resistance you lose in traction when it gets muddy. So I mostly use an Ardent/HR2 combo. Works for me... (I’m happy enough for the rear to skit about about a bit). I run HR2/Minion 2.8”...

Re: bags
I started off with a set of ortlieb bags. There’s nothing really wrong with them but as Colin (and Stu) say packing them (on the bike) is mostly a pain in the hoop. I’ve replaced the front pack with a revelate harness/salty roll. It’s easier to attach to the bike, is better supported and therefore r...
