Re: How long could you do it for?
I reckon you could go for quite some time with unlimited funds. A shower or room once a week...you'd get pretty adept at finding wild camping spots/not being shot at by a farmer. Maybe cover 50 miles a day taking it easy with quite a bit of sightseeing. Start in the summer and given the right gear g...

Spare Thomson Elite stem. Ebay special at just under a fiver. Postage was twice as much again from across the channel. :-\ Looked black in the picture...but silver will work.

Heh...wasn't a slug in sight...unless you're counting me! : )
It's all good...5 hours of wet isn't fun at the best of times. Perhaps another time eh?

Re: Long Mynd - 22/23 Nov
I heard the weather in your area was pretty bad...in a strange twist, the skies didn't open at all in west Salop until 2am...stopped around 3 or 4am...and dry all the way back home Sunday morning. The Mynd is pretty muddy though...plenty of standing water around.

Long Mynd - 22/23 Nov
After meandering around the back lanes out of Shrewsbury... greatEscapeFromTown.jpg ...had a good climb up from Picklescott to Pole Bank in the dark. summitingPoleBank.jpg Crossed the top of the Mynd to the southern end and into the forest. Found a nice pitch in the dark, but alas my pitching skills...

Re: How did you get into riding?
Being a non-motorised kinda bloke, I've always had a bike. From an early age, there were the obligatory fixies, dragsters, bmx and kmart-stylee heavy road things. In the early 90's I picked up a road bike from a mate...nice Reynolds 531 with Velocity Aeroheads and 105 all over it. That was when the ...

Re: 22nd/23rd looking for a bivi
I can get up onto the Edge from here...it's an easy paved ride and a good warm up. I'm interested to see a new way to get from the Edge down into Church/Little Stretton.

Re: 22nd/23rd looking for a bivi
The Mynd or Stiperstones...I've seen you mention that a few times. I've pitched in the forest up on the Kerry Ridgeway a few times, but it's hit 'n miss in the dark. Mendips might be a bit far as I'm not a motorised kinda bloke...I'd like to have some legs left for any type 2 fun that may occur. I'l...

If you don't mind a tag-along, I'm game. I'm out in Shrewsbury. Be a good excuse to get out/be social/pitch somewhere new.

200 miler sounds good. Lots of long, uphill grinding perhaps?

Slime tubes in an attempt to counter the rampant hedge cutting that's going on about the place. Tried tubeless? Yeah...although with varying results. Running Bonty 29.1's I was left with sealant spewing out in wet conditions on Cabin Pass/Wigwam Main Line in June...ended up going back to a tube and...

NOS Thomson Elite stem to replace my old one that developed a nasty crack after 11K Kms. Slime tubes in an attempt to counter the rampant hedge cutting that's going on about the place. Extremities merino thinny gloves and windy glo's to see if layering works better than my ageing Sealskinz. Warm 'n ...

Are TDR riders impervious to rising water levels? :wink: Some of them are not *grins* http://www.jmsweb.com/images/tourdivide2014/flathead_pass.jpg (Photo credit: Tuan Diep) When I saw Dave's flick of BB200 and him pointing at the little trickle, I had to smile. B) The long haul variety has suntanned fingertips;

Re: Tour Divide ... thinking out loud.
Tuppence from a starter in Banff this year... I can see the purists point of view - I saw first-hand people detouring and it puzzled me at first then made me angry as I trudged through the snow for hours on end. Whaddya do? Go drag 'em back? No. Race for yourself - it's all you can do. As the rules ...

G'day...first posting here...long time lurker...recently scarred Divide rider.
I'd be interested in a decent ride and cold overnighter. If you don't mind a newcomer trying to keep up.
