Re: Carbon rims for bikepacking

We use Roval carbon rims on all our mtn bikes. Admittedly 2 sets haven't been used loaded but have around 4-5 years of racing and training all over the uk. 1 set has been used a lot loaded and i am 86kg. Absolutely no problems all still run true. I wouldnt even question using them for HT550. Plus we...

Re: Recommended brakes

Ì wouldn't go for maguras personally. 3 sets of MTS inc carbon blades, 2 sets failed, and one of those ended in 18 stitches. Swapped to XT 765's i think. They are ok. We have a pair of Hope x2 race which have been brilliant on a world cup xc bike, had little maintenance issues.

Use a low direct mount GX or X0 2x10 on that mount, check that your chainrings are compatible, top pull?

Re: Hydrophobic Down - Any Disadvantages?

It was nikwax downproof and other coating products that started the damp resistance trend. Plus, it was the product that highlighted the issue with the down tendrils breaking off and folk ending with a bag of none lofting down bits. Experiments took place at ME Glossop and is probably why Pete doesn...

Re: Rear 'battery' powered lights with the longest run time?

There is evidence, but I cant be bothered to find it re the random flashing being better. It is similar but not linked to why emergency service vehicles use multi tones, and random flashing lights (not on all vehicles yet). Basically it makes you stand out more and reduces the mesmerising bit.

Ullnar Collateral Ligament Repair

Has anyone had this surgery? Also know as 'skier's or game keepers thumb'. I was knocked off the bike by another rider swinging across the trail and taking my front wheel out. It happened on the High Peak Trail nr Harborough Rocks. I had done around 50 miles on the South Peak Loop, and taking it ste...

I couldnt find any first time around. Thought one would be handy as a loaner/spare. Might have to spend on the Alpkit one with extra 10%off.

Richard, tightening the cleat will only make it harder to clip-in and release. It doesn't increase grip on the shoes cleat, that stays the same.

Re: Rushup (Dark Peak) needs you!

There is no supply in the Peak District for crushed gritstone. The gritstone that is used on any track renovation/creation is imported from Lancashire. The area is SSSI and introducing large amounts of limestone into a gritstone area is going to alter pH levels somewhere, or a white streak in a brow...

A chap in out club called Richard Thoday (on facebook) would be good to talk to. He toured in the alps early this year ticking a few cols on his Penny. He also won the London Nocturne last week and did some pacing for the hour record. He is always out in the Peak riding his Penny including ITT's.

Whitestone - it is worthwhile servicing the clutch mechanism in shadow mech's, It has definitely saved me two XTR's and one XT mech's. Sewing machine oil and not much of it is your friend, it's slightly fiddly until you understand how it works. Obviously I don't know the circumstances of your mech f...

I have some of Stu's Permavent as a groundsheet in Deschutes, it work's really well no issues. With a bit of sticky tape and scissors you can make it into a bathtub style groundsheet. I also have an Ookworks bathtub but which is great on a flat surface, slight slope and off you go down it.... seam g...
