Re: Bikepack Maps - New Version

Is it just me, or is the Cairngorm Loops route not showing up in Basecamp? (I've not tried that file on my Oregon yet). I thought it was just me not being able to work the oregon... But, no, I can't see it neither. I've just checked it on my Oregon too. Looks like Dave has somehow missed it off the...

Re: Bikepack Maps - New Version

Well, I've managed to download it to the device, thanks Bob! Used over 10% of my monthly allowance downloading mind. I need to spend less time 'online' anyways... Don't know what I'm doing with it but, hey, I've got until Friday to work it out... Copy the track I sent you into your ...

HT550 route is displaying OK.

Re: The SR/SR series, 2017

Cheers, yeh. The stopping time was lengthened mainly due to a very slow serving cafe stop half way and a lengthy chat with work colleagues who stopped me until I said I needed to move on because i was getting cold. Avoiding a cafe and buying a shop snack would have been much more efficient as well ...

Re: Bikepack Maps - New Version

Basecamp doesn't find it on your computer but if you plug in your device then you can load any map on the device from there. You can also create a virtual drive or - and this is what I've done - put the IMG file onto a USB stick and plug that in. Basecamp sees the external drive and assumes it's yo...

Re: advice. synthetic bags.

I've slept without a mat - when I was younger and the choice wasn't as great. I'd always now prefer a mat and a thinner sleeping bag as the overall weight/bulk would be similar. A quilt would be another option of course. Are there synthetic quilts?

Another Ardent/Crossmark user here. As Chew suggests, rear wheel grip can be "variable" but you mostly get used to it

Re: Oregon query

Are you sure the file you're trying to install on the Oregon is a Track and not a Route (or vise versa)? Your post suggests you're confusing the two and so may be looking for the wrong thing on your Oregon. It sounds as if it's Dropbox that's the issue. I just use Astro File Manager on my phone. Dow...

Re: Beginner one-bike-does-all options?

I'm a fan of Woodchippers but they're still a lot different to running flat bars. Building your own bike is a good idea as you can customise component selection. One down-side (especially at the moment) is that there are so many "standards" that you could easily end up buying incompatible ...

Re: software to split GPX into 500point sections

Given you have a Garmin GPS, I assume you're using the Inreach as a back-up GPS too, or is there some other reason to load a GPX file onto it? yes, back up to GPS and, the track is loaded on to my inReach share page. so, when following a pre-planned route people can see where I should be. tracking ...

Re: Beginner one-bike-does-all options?

Metalheart bought a Solaris Max recently. Sounds like it would do most of the job you're after and offer flexibility of wheel/tyre size. However, you might struggle to find a frame with geometry suitable for using drop and flat bars on.

141mm is QR Boost. Marin introduced it. I don't think anyone else has picked it up yet? Certainly limits hub options.

It will if you cut it at the 500th way point. You'd also have the option of splitting it somewhere convenient rather than a random point in the route.

Re: Beginner one-bike-does-all options?

How tall are you? How long will your trips be? It's difficult to escape the fact that wheel size and suspension options can limit your luggage carrying ability; shocks in frames take up space in the main triangle, tall tyres (and suspension movement) limit bag size on bars and below the saddle. Drop...

Basecamp

Load the whole track
Use the scissor tool to cut it into chunks.
Rename each one to what you want.

FYI, we had snow on the mountains last night and many areas have been flooded, with over a months worth of rain in the past 48 hours. Looks like the weather gods were with the HT550 riders again this year
