Re: The end of Middleburn
Love / hate for me. My collection of hammer-, hacksaw- and grinder-extracted crank arms will soon be worth a mint.

Re: Shimano caliper 'misting'.
For balance, I love Shimano brakes, including the set of 12-year-old Deores on my Swift that had their second bleed last year and still work perfectly.

Bargainacious Montane Fireball jacket from Wiggle. Light, packs small and fits well - seems just the job.

I ride both. Always SPDs for bikepacking but only out of habit and cos them's the pedals on my Swift.

Re: How far would you go?
Almost all my riding is from home. I'm lucky to have a huge variety and density of trails on my doorstep. If I travel somewhere to ride, it's almost always for a weekend or longer. Bikepacking trips seem to have squeezed out trail centres and I suppose that's increased the amount of riding time on m...

Plumped for the Fireball. I'm after something not too warm and plenty versatile and it seems like it should do the job.

All you need are some flints and a big pair of pants made out of an otter.

Wiggle have the Fireball jacket for £66, which seems like too good a bargain to miss.

Primaloft jackets and gilets
Thinking of getting a Primaloft gilet or jacket for those chilly but wet trips.
I know people rate the Montane Prism but what else is good?
And does anyone have experience of the Endura Flipjack or the stuff from Skogstad?

Re: Lights for people without a dynohub?
I've had a few lights over the years. The cheap Chinese lights are usually pretty good. Search on Singletrackworld for um for advice on the best of them. I'd personally recommend a light from mtbbatteries.co.uk. The Lumenator saw me right through the night on the BB200 and has been in regular servic...

Several mates have 710s and run them tubeless with ease. I'm impressed and will probably get a set some day.

Re: 'alt' bar advice.
I fairly recently swapped from Fleegles to Jones H bars on my Swift (adding a 29+ front tyre and raising the stem at the same time). I was trying to get closer to the set-up I have on my Stooge, which has OG bars on and is just fantastic. While the Swift now feels more comfortable and controlled ove...

Re: New bikes
A singular Swift? It's a very adaptable frame that you can build with 29 or B+, flat, drop or Jones bars. It's also got an EBB if you get empted by single-speeding.
All these things are also true of the Stooge. They are both great (but different).
