Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Wife, who's a Deputy Head, had to delay for 2 days as Ofsted decided the best day for them to turn up was the day we left Holiday in term time? :o Looks great. Enjoy. Too right! She supposedly only 'works' 4 days a week but always works on the 5th which is supposed to be a non-working day. The one ...

   That's funny, mate. I have definitely considered sleeping outside and even wondered where I could get a bike to cycle round to the beach and back to make it into a BAM for Oct.

Re: Gravadventuretouringroad type bike. Help required selecting

Thanks for that, Ripio. That's a nice looking bike. Yes, Hyppy, when I looked they were the only option. My thinking was that as they were quite expensive to take advantage of the deal. I've since slept on it and thought I'd be better living with it for a while before thinking about changing. Just g...

Re: Gravadventuretouringroad type bike. Help required selecting

Ok. Sold on the Tempest. I'd been eyeing up the Sonder Camino in titanium but kept thinking it was a stretch too far. This comes in at a much more acceptable price and as I can get the C2W, even better. So, submitted the claim at work today. Hopefully, it'll get sorted quickly and before I head on h...

Re: What are you drinking now?

Bundaberg root beer & rum.
That's got me all nostalgic! I spent about 6 weeks fruit picking in Bundy in '94 when travelling in Oz. Can't say I even tried the rum , though, but I do think I should buy a bottle when I see it.

Thanks for the replies so far. Ton - at first look the Spa options looked really interesting but they don't do C2W, so that puts me off them. Shame as they had great choice. I'd never heard of them. That's the benefit of asking here...to get help and direction from people who know a lot more than me...

Gravadventuretouringroad type bike. Help required selecting

So, after a few years of cycling around on my hardtail, I'm in a position to acquire a new bike. My needs for this bike is for commuting on road and bike trails, to ride around back roads where I live, to bikepack longer routes where it'd be a better fit than the hardtail and generally have a nice b...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Cheery due to the fact it's the last Friday before a holiday next Wed. Only 2 working days to go. Also, cheery as I am now in the market for a new bike after living with my hardtail for a few years. Expect advice in another thread.

Re: A Trossachs Overnighter

Phil...yes, It is close enough to attract casual campers. Last time I went, the Loch's level was a lot lower which gave camping spots outside the restricted area. Keith's idea of winter bivvys makes sense. The spots around the road area will end up busy. Lovely area though

Re: A Trossachs Overnighter

Dean - fair play for even going that way in the dark, Mate. And I'm not surprised about the brakes. I did consider going the loop the opposite way. Thankfully, I didn't. That climb would be brutal.

Keith - I thought there would be a lot of people around but only those in vans. No numpties at all.

A Trossachs Overnighter

Over most of this year, I've headed home to Scotland quite a few times but sadly never managed to get a trip out. Finally, this time I’d leave Callander and head out in the evening and camp out either at Loch Venechar or Loch Drunkie, spend a day cycling around a loop through Aberfoyle, pick up the ...

Re: Today's Run

At a spot on my usual running route I've met a youngish deer a couple of times. It's never seemed too concerned at me and the dog passing but does try to hide and blend in. Yesterday, I ran past two of the little Guys. I wasn't paying attention and only saw them as I got to about 15-20m away. They k...

No, it wasn't bad when it settled down and I finished riding with a nipping head. The problem, I think, was I was going soooo fast that the little Guy was stuck fast with the G force.

Rare commute back from the office and was smacked right between the eyes by a wasp or a bee. It stuck to my face as I waving around trying to get it off. Yep, all very true. I didn't weigh myself this week cos I was pushed to get somewhere on time. I think I'd have put on weight though. My aim this week is to cut out bread during the week, along with trying to limit snacking. We'll see how it goes.
