Re: What are you reading now?

A couple of lengthy train journeys and covid (almost certainly a result of one massively over-crowded train) has given me a bit more time to read recently. I read a book called Greenland: The end of the world by a Slovenian guy called Damjan Koncnik, though ghost-written/translated by an American, ...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Cheery Friday in that we are off to the Black Mountains tomorrow for a week to ride bikes and walk up and down hills and sit in front of a log burner, drink beer and read. Remote cottage with no phone signal and no WiFi. The whole world can go to hell in a hand cart next week for all I'll care!! :gr...

Re: Seat Pack advice please

https://aeroe.com/ I have no idea if they are any good, but one of the pics shows bags side loaded on the rear. But personally I'd look at two fork mounted bags, see PX, then a frame bag of sorts, stem cells, and a bar bag. I then use a bum bag such as the cheapy decathlon one if I am overflowing. ...

Re: Seat Pack advice please

Thanks All for the responses and advice really appreciated!! We are looking at alternative options assuming a seatpack is not a go'er or is going to be really small. Custom frame bag and fork cages are options to look into. The current "plan" is I need a bigger seat pack for her stuff as w...

Re: Seat Pack advice please

What's the resistance for a rear rack and drybag? I've been using a Tubus Vega with a Decathlon dry bag strapped to the top recentley following the demise of my home-made seatpack harness subframe and not having had time to remake it. Does the rack weigh a little more? Yes, by a couple of 100g. Doe...

Re: Seat Pack advice please

Thanks all for the feedback! I have been informed in clear terms that a classic rack is not an option  I did wonder about putting a small seat pack on top of the Alpkit rail thing or even bending the rail down to form a mini rack so a small seat pack could go on top of it and still be mostly ...

Seat Pack advice please

Hi All My girlfriend has a new bike and would like to use it for bike packing but being a small frame and 29'er wheels there is not a lot of clearance as you can see from the photo. Looking for suggestions for a seat pack that might fit please. Appreciate that it will be pretty small if it fits at a...

I have one of these and am very happy with it. Been on many trips, takes pretty good photos and is easy to use. Second hand available within your budget. There is a free phone App you can get that allows you to control the camera remotely from your phone and dead easy to transfer photos from the cam...

Re: Patagonia - Earth is now our only shareholder.

Barring a miracle, (electrical generation using nuclear fusion maybe?) I think we are probably screwed. But it's worth pointing out that Yvon Chouinard is one of the good guys, he's been buying areas of Patagonia and making them into protected parks for years. He also lets his employees go surfing ...

That letter sums up my feelings (bit of a nothing person tbh). I disagree Dave, I don't know you personally but from looking at your contributions on her you clearly have thoughtful points of view rather than a dogmatic my way or the high way point of view not all of which are going to be universal...

I'me enjoying this tread and the opinions/stances taken by the contributors. I don't feel the need to queue to be in the same place as a dead person but fully respect that some people do, and while there will be a load of spurious reasons for doing so I am sure that there are just as many valid pers...

Re: Garmin Edges

Just as a follow up, I got impatient and bought an edge 530. Used it twice now with varying success. Spent a while ploughing through various menus to try to set it up like I want it. It's similar to the old edge 200 I have (well a bit) so less difficult than coming from the dakota so this was done ...

Generally considered to be on and/or from the the wrong side of the tracks! :???: Right hander. Usually ride on the right side of a track unless the terrain demands otherwise or there is other traffic and lead with my left foot. (possibly due to an accident to the right knee some years ago)
