Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Was just about to mention that as well, but then noticed that it was for "mailing list subscribers only". So I emailed Steven to ask if he'd mind if we aired it to all and sundry, as above  . As it happens he doesn't mind  :-bd . There's a discount code, prospective unsubscri...

Re: Favour required - someone in the EU

A perfect example of why leaving the EU was such a brilliant idea. That tank doesn't even have a bottom, the petrol will pish out everywhere (assuming you find a way to get it in). Thank god we can control our imports and stop this sort of crap from being sold in Grate Brittin.

Re: Which tapered dry bag?

DCF - 72grams Alpkit (small) - 136grams Lomo 268grams. The 10 litre Wildcat bag is 64g. I don't think I'd be comfortable with anything lighter than that. I'd really like my drybag to be able to keep stuff dry so being very watertight is my first priority, durability and the ability to keep being wa...

Re: DWR coating

I ‘spose just coating everything in Fabsil Gold will just bugger up the breathability, mind if that’s not an issue for you It might be obvious but the DWR has a huge impact on the breathability and comfort of Goretex. If the fabric is wetting out (becoming saturated) then the breathability is massi...

Re: DWR coating

It's all in the application. Gore use a brand of DWR that's readily available to everyone (and has been mentioned in this thread) on their fabric before it goes out. It isn't a proprietary product as many think. It is however, applied with a specific process (think high heat). If you know how its d...

Re: Active travel carriage on WH railway line.

Edinburgh - Glasgow is such a frequent service that taking a bike on has never been an issue. Just turn up a couple of trains early to make sure. Not impossible, but I'd have to get the 0633 from Crianlarich instead of the 0933 - don't mind getting up early, but it turns a 5 hour journey into an 8 ...

Re: Van recommendations

Around a year ago I imported a Nissan Elgrand and I think it might be the best car/van I've ever had. I haven't converted mine but many do. Seats eight and the configuration is such that you can have 3 rows of seats, or 2 rows and a big rear (boot?) space. The middle seats are captain's chairs and s...

Re: Bespoke frame - anyone done it?

So based on discussions above basically you want to overbuild slightly so that you still have a spring in the steel when loaded? I guess tubeset plays a massive factor here. It would be interesting to hear James' thoughts on this when it comes to speccing tubes. I just don't think there are enough ...

I'm actually more interested in what/where these "modified" trails are. Don't worry folks, I'll be sussing them out pretty quickly, once they are built. I suspect it will be a lap of the golf course or something. I'm pretty sure they're done already. I think most are the estate roads and ...

If 65mm offset works for you, then you could use one of the original bosses and fit a drj0n barnacle as the second.

Didn't think I'd like it but had a shot of a friends Canyon (Dude?) and have to say that for the money, it seemed like a pretty well specced bike. Didn't ride it enough to form much in the way of ride opinions but seemed ok to me.
