Re: Is next year a write off already?

I don’t think you can compare Spanish Flu timelines and suggest that’s how Covid will pan out.

Even with troop movements I’ve not seen anything to suggest the number of movements across borders is comparable. Globally we saw 4.5 Billion individuals taking flights last year for example.

Re: Buying new forks, what do I need to know?

Thanks folks, great info as always :-bd And Piemonster, if things work out with your Travers I wouldn’t mind giving those Chinese forks a try. I might get an idea and could pass them on if I buy something else. I’ll do some more reading over the weekend and see what’s involved Forks now available i...

Re: The post man's been ...

Nice to have a supply of reading material laid down for when the flag goes up again, so on return from hols it was good to find Mike Carter's 'One Man On His Bike' on the back door step. Also a parcel from a very fine gentleman on the Isle of Wight - 'Long Standing Ambition' relating Jono Dunnett's...

Transition bag; a fancy backpack that has a compartment for a wet wetsuit, a nice soft-lined pocket for goggles and various other pockets. Handy for keeping all the kit together when walking to and from swimming spots. Consider it an upgrade from my current IKEA bag  Uh oh, are you venturing i...

Just to be clear as I think this is new to me. Chain A - ride 500km then fit chain B Chain B - ride 500km then fit chain C Chain C - ride 500km then fit chain A That/\/\ ? Coz I don’t see the advantage over just regular cleaning/oiling/putoline and changing when worn? Intrigued to understand the thi...

Re: Is next year a write off already?

Yeh, planning for an event is quite often well over a year. E.g. Early bird discounts etc, and if you’re doing that you need to know you can run the event to sell tickets for. Then there’s sponsors, exhibitors, acts and the like that all need to be on the bill and marketing guff if that’s the sort o...

Re: Is next year a write off already?

The rumour is that they're expecting to start rolling out a vaccine to NHS frontline workers around Christmas time. That info was almost certainly deliberately leaked by the government so no clue how true it is but it will be months before it'll be generally available. Friends have been told they’l...

Re: Is next year a write off already?

Next spring is a write off. Next year not so much, from personal experience I’d suggest it’s as much a case of not being able to secure event cancellation insurance as anything else. That’s being reasonably optimistic with the efficacy and delivery of a vaccine. We have shares in AstraZeneca so that...

Re: Issue 4 of GravelWanker magazine

Ah well, depends what you mean by “do it all” doesn’t it. I’ve lived in a couple of places where a GW bike would genuinely fit the Do It All Bill. And I’d say the majority of cyclists I’ve know they’d also be a Do It All bike. But then, those same cyclists don’t really venture beyond fairly timid br...

Re: Light Bicycle Wheel Co: Any Thoughts or exp?

One thing I’ll say about deep section rims is they are a bit annoying in windy conditions.

You do get used to it but I never stopped noticing the wind catching them. That was on a road bike mind you.

Re: Festive 500 in a oner?

Surely it's the other way round. Plonking your arse on a trainer requires little imagination but devising a route or routes outside does. I mean, the imagination that lets you engage with something like a computer game for 20-24hrs  I'd need to be dosed up like a Timothy Leary experiment. I’v...

Re: Titanium water bottles

A steel Kleen kanteen does the job fine. Wide neck version is especially good for use as a heating vessel. A standard pot grab works well on the rim. This won’t work. As he’s aged Colin has developed an almost pathological aversion to any metal that isn’t Titanium. I’m just waiting for him to try a...

Axle will come with your forks Just use the same headset, I just swap the crown race over if I change forks. A cutting guide for steerers is a worthwhile investment. I don’t think you really need anything, maybe a star fanged nut but that’s about it. (I’ve Rebas I use with a Broken Road btw and have...
