Can deliver to the Lakes and chuck in a set of spare lightly used white (well, as white as any soft mountainbike component can be) floaters?

Re: Osteoporosis: How well protected are we...
Im sure Ive seen a study showing mtb is comparable to running for building/ maintaining bone density (the other category was triathletes which similalry had better bones due to the running compared to swimmers or road cyclists). Its the constant vibrations and impacts that stimulate the bone to grow...

On-One Fatty £320, large
I've swapped some parts since I took these photos: Rotors are now mismatched Hope C2/Shimano, shifting is Sram x5, bars are nukeproof warhead, grips are orange silicone foam (knock off ESI's), brakes are SRAM DB5, chainring is a 32t N/W. BB, seatclamp, other anodized trinkets, have been swapped back...

Re: Single speed uk anyone going ?
Yup, and my parents are in Wensleydale so should make a nice trip! I geared for the event and planned a hillier route through the borders, but left little slack in the time allowance. Plan a, scenic route to peebles Plan b, direct route to peebles Plan c, b but sleep in a pre arranged summer house/s...

Trains from sterling to Geetna and rode the last bit back to the car inwas home by (late) Monday night. Takeaways: SS is fun, but...

Re: Ridgeway from both ends...
I live in the middle, or rather i live just south of j11 so the closes bit is the middle. I had planned a daft end of summer weekend challenge to ride upto Goring and do one half double, then the other half double on Sunday. Neither bikepacking or ITT but still a good 200mile weekend. But every week...

Re: If you were offered sponsorship...
Sounds like a decent balance between work and sponsorship there. I suppose by working full time at alpkit it's in a way easy for them to justify the time off and expenses of a race/tour as what they lose in productivity they gain in marketing. Work pays our entry fees if more than a certain number o...

Re: (Some) people are dicks
Oh and tribal groupings are so strong that even randomly assigning people to groups with a public coin toss is enough to get "in -group" bias Sorry, that's what I meant, that the definition of the particular 'tribe' could be quite fluid. Or in the context of the OP, saying car drivers are...

Re: Bonkers time triallists
I accept your broad point that something could happen . However it is an inattentive driver who does this. The "good drivers killing cyclists" is reflected massively in cycling related deaths in courts. It is the "good drivers" sub standard driving that is the cause here. I agre...

Re: Bonkers time triallists
For the avoidance of doubt I love riding with the road racing club even if they do give me a strange look when i pull out the hip flask at a winter stop! And TTing is a great niche of that. We run a lot of 'sporting' TTs which aren't 10 or 25 miles but a lap of a course, usually with a few hills in ...

Re: Bonkers time triallists
Yup I agree. I posted a similar oppinion STW after driving upto teesside and seeing them on the a19 (which is much the same as the a50, a motorway in all but name) in thick fog! I was informed that i should wind my neck in and they had every right to be there. During my 18 months there there were tw...

Re: 2 - 3 season down quilt for girlfriend
Do you have a sketch/photo of the overall quilt? I was thinking of a project to make a quilt/bag with a 'pocket' in the base for a mat. Then a mesh side panel with webbing loops and a drawchord to either allow ventilation or tuck the quilt down onto the mat. Might pick up a cheep and nasty 2nd hand ...

Thats cool, ive got the £1.99 bag from decathlon, similar to the osprey and certainly not waterproof. But 46g and £1.99! Quite appealing having a waterproof version thats tolerable for more than a couple of hours. I had planned to strip the webbing and buckles off it and replace with spliced dynema ...

I'll try and get some pics of it without the bags later. Theres somr heel rub and scuffs but its a good colour for hiding battle wounds!

A university did an experiment - they knew that there were significant numbers of both Man Utd and Liverpool supporters amongst the students (both teams have "red" shirts but they are different shades of red) so they arranged for a "victim" to collapse on campus and noted what h...

Re: Ulefone or blackview phones?
I've had 3 ulefones, a power2 and two S8-pro. Overall they're good for the money but some apps can be a little glitchy and crash. I put it down to people like Waze and Spotify testing their apps on Samsung, Motorola, sony and Google phones, but probably not the cheaper ones. So it keeps loosing the ...

Re: Stuff sack stored down sleeping bag
I've got an old (1970/80's?) ME Dragon series down bag which I 'borrowed' from my parents about 10 years ago. It's still warm-ish despite spending at least a couple of years stuffed in a tiny dry bag. The only care it gets is the occasional wash and tumble dry. It does seem to loft a lot better with...

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the legal difference between a TT on the road (which is legal) and an enduro or downhill race where competitors are racing the clock?

Re: Monstercross drop bar stuff (Woodchipper, Microshift, BB
Did the 9s mech work well with mud? I'm building up something similar and already have 10s STI's and 10s mtb mech already and an old 8/9s mech. So wondering whether to use the older mechs or fit a shift mate near the STI and take advantage of the bigger cable pull.
