Re: Do we have a nice route? N-S across Dartmoor?

Interesting idea. I have been wanting to do a N-S traverse for ages. Starting at Okehampton the going is great until you run out of military tracks. Then there is a sizeable gap until Fernworthy resovoir that is mostly a tussock filled squelchy nonsense... Sounds great! I believe Aiden Harding's EWE...

Re: Squeal like a fox boy.

If I had had the "balloon between my arse cheeks", I am pretty sure the gunshot would have either burst it, or I would have self lubricated it!!

Sounds a decent adventure to me...

SW Winter "Bivvy"

4 hardy souls (Taylor, Somerset Paul, Mariner and myself) assembled at Princetown in the traditional Dartmoor mizzle and horizontal rain. Obviously the first thing to do was retreat to the warm and dry of the Foxtor cafe, where I laid out the map and very roughly pointed out the proposed route. Afte...

Re: Winter Bivvy South West - Details

I have to say I thought the forecast was pretty good considering... Be assured, we will get wet. We will probably feel cold too. This is all part of the charm... Make sure you have a dry set of clothes to sleep in, especially socks. A small travel towel is always useful to get your feet dry before g...

I shall also have my small gas stove as a hot brew is always nice if the weather is poor. Having said that, we will only be r...

Re: Winter Bivvy South West - Details

I am! I shall be in the main car park at 1pm. I shall try to construct some kind of bearbones signage or similar so you know who I am... I aiming to set off at 1.30pm. I reckon we will have time to play about with tarps if the wind is kind to us. I shall bring spare pegs just in case... See you ther...

Re: Winter Bivvy South West - Details

Hi Jam Bo, I took a walk around the route on Sunday. It is certainly moist. The overriding weather on Sunday was high wind. Walking down Jobber's Road towards the Scout Hut, the wind actually brought us to a standstill walking downhill. If it is that windy on the 12th, it will make erecting any kind...

Re: Winter Bivvy South West - Details

Don't panic, The list I gave was a list to cover a much bigger outing than we will be enjoying! Let's take a look at your "missing" items: Bar harness - Not actually needed. Just strap your dry bag directly onto your handlebars. 3/4 sleeping mat - Any sleeping mat will do. Heck, you can ev...

Hi Somerset Paul, Given the choice between a full sus and a cross bike, I would choose the full sus. I have a rigid steel Genesis Fortitude 29er and a steel Genesis Croix De Fer and I am taking the 29er. Bigger tyres will be more comfortable. In terms of what to bring. I think the best way I can ans...

Re: Bivvy a month 2015

First night ever spent in a hammock on South Dartmoor last night. It poured with rain and blew a gail most of the night. Somehow managed to stay dry though.

First night outside since WRT.

Felt good.

Re: With the onset of winter ...

Nothing spectacular this Summer. Spent the longest time off a bike for 5 years due to a back issue but now gradually getting back on and looking forward to building my rides back up... Reading this thread shows that there is a fair amount of injury and/or illness in BB land... Look after yourselves!...

24 mile off road loop out of Princetown on Dartmoor. First decent rides for many weeks. Really pleased to discover that I can still ride OK after my forced abstinence due to a trapped nerve in my back. The sun was out and it felt a real pleasure to be out on a bike. Loads of others enjoying the outd...

Hello fellow loaded bike riders... I can't take part in the madness this year, but I wanted to wish you all of the best. Despite being part of the "fun" last year, I am quite jealous. Don't forget, it's just for fun. Don't give up. Keep moving forward even when the going gets hard. You'll ...
