Re: New Year, new photo comp.

I'm cheating as this isn't my injury but here we go anyway... This is my brothers' arm after the surgeon at Addenbrookes reconstructed his elbow, which he managed to disintegrate on a Welsh hillside about half an hours ride out from the trail centre at Nant-yr-Arian. Such an innocuous accident afte...

Re: So, rigid forks?

I ride in the peak quite a bit and never found the switch to rigid a problem. It did coincide with me going to 29" wheels though and I found they more than compensated by rolling over ruts and rocks that would catch me out on my 26" wheeled Soda. I also found that the stuff where they star...

How many?......Pt2

In the how many bikes you got thread FLV said he got more shelters than bikes. I initially thought this was a lot but then I got thinking and guess what I have more shelters than bikes too! So how many you got and what are they? In my loft I curently have; Vango 6berth family tent - Recent pur...

Re: how many?

Now that I'm down to 2 bikes, for some reason I want another. Surly Krampus to be specific. I'm sure I'll resist for now Ditto the Krumps but I really think Mrs brothersmith would kill me if another bike turned up in the garage! I also worry that I might look like a child on one, I am short and put...

Re: How's your year been? Pics and captions pls!

It is indeed an Alp Kit bicycle 7 (280 x 240 cm). Its 613g on my scales but I have loads of dyneema cord on it which you could probably whittle down (I am still learning so like security of lots of guying points). They are out of stock of the Kelp at the moment but I would be willing to part with mi...

Re: How's your year been? Pics and captions pls!

2012 not been a bad year for me given I have a non-biking family and I am also doing a part-time course on-top of my full time job. I seemed to strike upon a few days at start of week were I could escape without causing to much trauma to family life. Unfortunately this year the little fella has star...

Like the idea of WRT lite. Can never earn enough browny points for 3 nights away from Mrs Brothersmith and the little one at half-term. But if I start banking them know I might just get enough for 2 nights away :D

Re: Priced out of mainstream mountain biking?

You think Mountain Biking is bad, just look at the road biking scene. £500 on a set of wheels is considered by some to be bargain basement and you can easly spend a couple of grand on a frame : :?

They may be expensive but at least you can see where the money goes on a set of sus forks :D

Ray, I am in a similar position. Having a 4 yr old and a non-biking partner makes it difficult to get out for overnighters so every other month sounds like a realistic challenge for me too.

Re: Drop Bars

Hi Chew, you saw my set up for my fargo with Jones bars. I started off with drops on it but found if I set them up right for off road riding they were uncomfortable on the hoods and tops, so it didn't give me a lot more hand positions over flats. I did really like the position they put your hands in...

Re: BPWD Lair - Revisited

Intresting you found same issues with Silnylon version as I have with the Cuban one Stu. I thought it was down to the Cuban meaning I couldn't get a taught pitch. Running a shorter pole has helped a lot and I find 120cm works well (John from BPWD suggests 130) and takes most the flap out the door wh...
