Those toilets were locked when I arrived there last year :(

Some bothies (like Shenavall and Suileag) will probably be busy but others (Hydro bothy) will only have HT riders.

Re: Pro roadies do bikepacking

I know nothing about training regimes at that level but some of the figures I find interesting. 2018 TdF = 3349km in 21 days, ave. speed approx 40kph 2018 TC = 3406km won in (just under) 9 days Now, the TdF riders spend a lot less time in the saddle per day at much higher speeds, mostly in a peleto...

Re: Loch Awe to Ben Nevis - anyone done it?

I would avoid the A82 as much as possible and go via A828. It should be slightly shorter but has a bit more climbing. The A828 is much quieter than the A82.

Re: cairngormloop 1st september?

Before I go and have to measure it does anyone know how far round the route in miles the new Ruigh Aiteachain bothy in Glen Feshie is? It's at 90 miles. Don't plan on getting space in the bothy if it's a nice day though. In the May group start, there were 12-15 tents already set up outside the both...

Anyone got any pointers where Im going wrong? The URL you put in the IMG tag needs to be a direct link to the image rather than a page which displays the image. Re: Jenny Graham -Around the World Record Attempt

Has she got an extended visa for Russia? Seems a long way looking on the map for a 30 day visa? The route across Russia looks to be slightly over 4000 miles. She said she's planning on averaging 180 miles a day, so that works out at 22 days to cross Russia. Should give enough contingency time but I...

Re: Jenny Graham -Around the World Record Attempt

What daily distance would she have to ride to break M and W record? Her route goes Moskau-Krasnoyarsk in quite a straight line, seemingly following an orthodromic distance as good as possible. This and obviously less border crossings for possible reasons? So how do such rides work? Are there exit a...

Looks like Javi rested/slept at Linlochewe and will push for a finish now? When did Lee or Alex rest? Javi has an issue to do with the sliding dropouts on his singlespeed. He has it zip tied together just now but i don't think he's expecting it to last until tyndrum. I'm sitting outside strathcarro...

I do have a backpack which wasn't pictured. Also still got another bottle and a couple of tubes to strap to the frame.
Still as light as I can be though.

Primula squeezy cheese tube as a tyre boot and zip ties to hold everything together fixed a split tyre wall: https://i.imgur.com/qEYJsdY.jpg?1 I had expected the zip ties to wear through and break off pretty quick but they lasted from the 'puddle of doom' on the little road after Aviemore right roun...

Peter is on the move again and has just started the central loop backwards, it must be intentional? Perhaps he going for the first HT550 Yo-Yo? Perhaps wants to see some of the riders in the group start? If he's not sure that he can make it back to Tyndrum by saturday morning, doing it in reverse m...

I stopped at the little ruin in Glen Builg about 2k before the loch and got about an hour of sleep. I'm surprised how much it helped and I felt awake for the rest of the day.

I did 26:18. Very happy with that.
Happy just to finish it, in fact - that's the 3rd time I've started and the first time I made it to the finish.

The river crossings were all very low. Some lower than others, as Phil says. The feshie, in particular, looked very low. Dry trails and good weather too. Would a gravel bike be particularly unsuitable for the HT550??? Its not any slower than a MTB but not any faster either and a lot less comfortable. I used a planetx XLS and it held up fine as far as Lochinver where i scratched (for reasons not related to bike choice). I'm quite sure the bike would ...

see if you can find the routes that the Trans Scotland Race people took. Jenny Tough wrote a blog and it had a pic of the strava fly-bys. (it isn't a fixed route.) I came over from Laggan to Ft William via Spean Bridge on the Trans Scotland and I think most other riders did the same so none of us w...
