Gardening? you can stuff it! - nearly cut my pinky off with the loppers and ended up in A&E for an hour. Interestingly, the kind Nurse fixed it with superglue, which is a top tip I reckon. Oops! Hope it wasn't too serious Phil. Superglue to fix cuts is an old climber's trick. It’s also what sup...

Anyway, I had better go and prepare my winter biomass rather than theorise on renewables because that is my bank-holiday-hide-from-the+crowds-even-though it’s-nice-weather job. Ooh that's my job today too ... doesn't seem right burning petrochemicals to cut it  I was thinking the same as I bo...

Of course you could have phrased it better, you said there is no such thing as green energy- that’s bullshit.

RE: noise, they had an issue with that at the TT during the Zero (electric bike) races ... I believe they solved it by sticking a bit of card on the swinging arm that rubbed on the wheel* Mostly when an EV is running at driving speeds you can hear them coming easily enough by the road noise. They a...

I had a similar experience with GWR recently. Random week day not in the holidays and all 6 bike spaces on multiple trains were booked. The train I did get a space on was devoid of bikes except mine…

Just finished sorting my hay so I’ve got the slaughter man coming for one of the pigs tomorrow. It’s going to be black pudding making and hide scraping time for us. Once all that is done it’ll be up to the Moor for some camping with the kids. I have Wednesday pencilled in for riding - testing the la...

think its was less than fiver per shoe for the loal cobbler to do mine That said they only lasted about 4 rides - but he did warn me it would likely not work Depends on the boot or shoe in question. Many/most modern boots aren’t made in such a way as to allow a new sole to be fitted. The OP’s Altbe...

Re: OT - Boot Repair

My 2p’s worth is that the OP should bite the bullet and get Altberg to do the pro repair. My experience is that if the sole is starting to come away glueing will just delay the inevitable need for a proper fix and Altbergs are well worth fixing. You're right. I just want to give it a try myself and...

Re: Hydration vest for bikepacking

Never really understood this business of carrying gallons of water around with you. If there's one thing this country isn't short of it's water - taps in most buildings, parks, graveyards; rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, pubs, rain. A superlight 1-pint bottle and a water filter has been sufficient o...

Re: Tents, tarps, bivvies... help!

I can’t speak directly about the soloist but lots of tents pitch inner first. MSR and North Face are prime examples. Whilst this is less than ideal, my experience is that it doesn’t matter too much in practice. If you are slick at putting up the tent, even in a total sh1t storm, the tent doesn’t get...

The other thing I was considering was using the yoke from my old PLCE bergan pockets to hold up the waist pack. That’d end up looking like a home brewed version of your Henty Pack Stu.

Re: Tents, tarps, bivvies... help!

Having used a tent for years I got a flat tarp a few years ago to save weight on short trips. I didn’t get on with it much, too much faff and not enough coverage for me. I moved to a shaped tarp/tarp tent in the form of a SMD Gatewood Cape and am very happy indeed. Over time I’ve added a home made T...

Hydration vest for bikepacking

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of using a hydration vest as opposed to a hydration pack/Camelbak. I saw a video of the guy from Bikepacking.com who talked about using one for the Colorado Trail Race. It looked great with loads of little pockets and whatnots for stashing kit in easi...

I'm using an Arundel Loony Bin to hold a 40oz Kleen Canten under my downtube. Only used on a single trip of 5 days - KAW plus riding back to Exeter predominantly off road. tThe mechanism got quite gunged up by the end of the ride but has washed up fine now. It appears to be pretty solid and I'm pret...

TBF anyone working so hard over such a prolonged period is going to be slowly dismantling their immune system.
I’m sure the people pushing these long FKT attempts are always on the edge of illnesses like pneumonia during an attempt.
