Re: What you done t' your bike today

Shot away some sticky dog poo off the rear tyre of my ssp Moxie, which got a new fork and was sparkling.
I tend to feel the urge to take a dump in front those dog holder's doors Good thing is, for redemption just thinking about this is enough for me.

Re: The great British train scandal

you can get from one side of France to the other by train for £20 Ditto Spain [...] Switzerland is great for public transport too, also with bikes. So good infact, I still don't have a driving license. But... to get across the small country (despite superb connections, thanks to mountain ranges to ...

Re: Modern Hardtails

Are they actually any use for bikepacking? Absolutely. They're incredibly fun. I ride a modded preprod. 2 gen. Pipedream Moxie (size "longer") and every ride is a total rush. If you're not set on a Ragley yet, have a look at Pipedream's Moxie or Sirius. They don't just ride fantastic, the...

Re: GPS Unit of choice?

Garmin Edge 830. Takes the most beating of any GPS I ever came to toss around multiple times (there have been a few), screen not too big to drain battery quick, intelligent tools (eg battery save mode which works fantastic), stellar connectivity, route planning on the go dead easy. List would go on....

Re: GPS Tracker Thread - Spot Content and In reach

I have and it's been long enough and not eventful enough to remember how it went down. IIRC you get an email explaining what to do. You basically handle the Garmin account (make a log in) they take care of the rest. Get intouch, it'll become clear. I'm a bit notorious in not visiting the Garmin acco...

Re: Wobbly forks

Yeah, I'd say the flex is normal. 2013-2016 I had a bike with Fox 32's and even unloaded, I found them annoyingly flexy, especially riding the bike as if it was full enduro bro. I can imagine the step cast versions are even flexier, since they're also much narrower than the regular versions. If you ...

Re: Iceland Divide 2024: need advice on tent, sleeping mat and stove

Don't get me wrong, it's a really good tent and has enough length for tall people. Though it's a tight fit in width with one regular and one wide version of Exped Syn mats. Two wide versions could be too much. It's good in wind, just not kinda good enough without any mods for careless camping anywhe...

Re: Iceland Divide 2024: need advice on tent, sleeping mat and stove

I would. Lightweight floor fabrics allow you to add another layer fabric (ground cloth) and still have a lighter and less bulky option than with eg. a 70D or 100D PU floor (regular tent floors found in TNF, Marmot, Hilleberg and many more) which weigh anything from 90 - 200g/m2. Even the heavily PU ...

Re: PSA On One Huntsman GX Eagle £899

Sounds worse than Surly (from which the framesets of eg Krampus costs about the same as the whole Huntsman GX bike).

I'd still get one.

Chances are high, you'll have a frame that's good to go.
If not, get them to give you a another one that is okay.

Re: PSA On One Huntsman GX Eagle £899

Yes, this seems a very good deal. Even if the geometry doesn't fit and you sell the frame for 200 quid. I've no experience with On-One but can't remember hearing anything bad about the quality of the frames they sell. Any comparable builds from other brands are North of 2x the price. Despite in some...

Re: How is it .....

I've just put a deposit on a Fairlight Holt which apparently has a 27.2 seatpost and I've added a dropper to the order. Never owned a dropper before, nor paid any attention to seatpost diameters. Just a tube innit? Yeah. Kind of. It's two tubes and some lego bricks. If you buy Fox Transfer it's two...

Re: The Dullest Square

We have a few flat fields which are dull and within the same distance we have glaciers. I knew this square, so the choice was easy.

Standing there (especially in winter) is all but dull.

Re: How is it .....

27.2 makes a lot of sense for an XC/endurance bike, to design in a bit of flex comfort, and there's plenty of dropper options. When I had my ti frame made I went for the usual large diameter seat tube (as you would for a strong, exped capable bike) and for flex I can insert a sleeve and thin eg 27....

Shame 5.10 Trailcross is well on the narrow side. How about sizing one up? I need to get new ones (yes, they lasted long) and am hoping to be a bit more comfy. No experience with the waterproof version though. I go with sealskins, which after little use aren't waterproof either, but help keep feet w...

So what to do about removing the days sweat and old cream from my shorts? Many of you have done epic treks, so how do you deal with this? Nothing. If you use the Connect app on your mobile, give it a try from there. This would help you isolate the issue. If you need the PC/laptop, how about doing it manually? Download the gpx file from ridewithgps onto your whatever download folder. Plug the Edge to the PC. Drag & drop the file from the do...

We collected water in cups, pan and lid from the tent fly. That's fine if your tent fly is perfectly clean and hasn't been treated with those chemicals they use to make nylon water repellent........... If you pack your kit away damp after it's rained it goes mouldy, where do you think the mould com...

I mean it looks a pretty dark colour and grim in places, so wheres best and where to avoid? Dark like peaty? Clear but dark brown can be  (quite) safe, especially when it comes directly from a spring. chlorine tablets are the only sure fire way of killing everything. Chemical agents may not be able...
